Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • I bought a full size spare wheel for the Gt, bought some 7 mm MDF and cut a new floor on top of the new wheel, the floor is now 8cm higher but its hard to see the difference. Bought the wheel off Ebay and fitted a second hand brigstone tyre from the local tyre shop all up the spare only cost $150.

    • I drove to work and used the Stage 2+ 80-120 acceleration to effectively negotiate the passive-aggressive lane-blocking wankers that gather on the WA freeways around the city after 9am.

I (of course) am completely without fault.

So you propped up the false floor with foam to the height of the full size spare and put in the 7mm mdf as the new floor??

Are you going to carpet it?

                    • Sorry about the pictures as i had to load them direct from Photo bucket.
Yes i went to Clark's rubber bought some 8cm high high density foam placed it around the edge of the boot floor and cut the 7mil MDF to suite the higher floor and replaced the carpet over it .

No, when you are pasting them, there is already a http:// in the box & you are getting 2 which kills the link.

That's sad news. Do you have any mods that you can sell me, when/if you return the car to stock?

I bought some stainless 'tuner bolts' in Canberra from Pierre, since I am a few bolts short, so to speak.

                            • Got all inspired to get the paintwork back to like new.

Gave it a damn good wash then clayed it.

Holy cr@ap! It was like claying sandpaper.

Took over 3 hours (but is now nice and smooth)

Polishing will have to wait for another day.

I'll be selling it as it is, there is no real gain in stripping it down if I can get a reasonable figure without having the stress of it.
