dealer very apologetic and offered a FREE TINT during the UNECESSARY 1000km (BUT FREE) check up to make up for it...

FELT OK...

drove another 100km (drive was smooth and easy), and when backing up the car in the garage, car started to make the annoyng BEEP sound. car came with REVERSE PARKING SENSOR that was not included on the orignal quote of 38,600 (OR DOES IT COME STANDARD FOR A GT?).

Parking sensors are a $700 thereabouts optional extra.

Maybe they tried to shrug off an ex-demo car on you, either that they seriously made one big bungleup.

300k's thats unacceptable. id be wanting much more than a free tint. id be MIGHTY pissed. id probably refuse the car in fact and lodge a complaint with whatever useless gov't dep't is in charge of such things. the dealer will only give you a piss weak 35% tint that barely looks tinted at all.

Most "new" cars seem to have only 10-30Km on them these days (unless they have to be driven away from the dealer for for some aftermarket work of some kind).

Looking at the bright side, those 300Km were probably good "running-in" driving (ie not too gentle).

I wouldn't accept the car personally.

1000k 'check up' is always free too - I'd be offended they are trying to pass it up as a favour to you.

I bet it got a flogging! what possible excuse could they have for 300k's. It probably will have way more than that as they can reset the speedo. Mine had 26km's on it at delivery.

A good point would be to get the extra 2 year warranty included giving you 5 years before its an issue.

I am pretty sure from doing my Motor Vehicle Sales License last December, anything under 500km is classed as New Car. (Unless it has been registered as a Demonstrator of course)

Also if you bought a car and the O.T.P Reads it is a NEW Vehicle and not DEMONSTRATOR and you find out it is a demonstrator, you could easily get out of that car.

Personally 300km is really nothing and yes it sucks because you want to be the first and all that stuff but seriously 300km? 3000 and I would have a problem!

I would want to know how the ks got to 300.

If your car was in stock at Canberra, and you wanted it ASAP in Sydney, they may have driven it rather than trucking it, or someone took something down to Canberra and brought this one back.

Perhaps accept the tint (make sure it's using the good stuff not the crap film) for which Barlo in Melbourne wants $700 (worht $250) and hit them for a fuel fillup at the 1000k check.

As mentioned, you may not have a choice to reject the car anyway so a few goodies will help.

Several times when I have test driven cars they have had to hang temporary dealer plates off the car. This implies to me that they intend to sell the car as new and they have not registered it as a demo car. The last time this happened was a Golf GTI, it had approx. 100km on it and the sales person said that we could only go for a short drive in this car as they wanted to keep the km low because they intended to sell it as a new car. If you buy floor stock you have to expect that there might be a few km on it due to other people test driving it before you.

that's what I was told too.
500km+ = demonstrator
5000km+ = used car

I worked at a Toyota dealer about 25 years back & if they had to do a pick up from another dealer or running around for tint, AC fitment, fabric protection, etc then the salesmen disconnected the speedo cable - that's probably illegal these days.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I recall part of the predelivery on one of the fully imported cars (brand escapes me) you either had to connect the speedo cable or enable the digital speedometer via the ECU - that was also a fair while back.

I would not accept it, there can be no explanation other than it has been used as a demo. New car price = new car!

I'd be interested to hear the dealers explanation as to how it came to have 300K's on the clock.

no explanation whatsoever.. he appeared dazzled himself... i emailed him this morning asking when i can schedule for a car tint and he has not replied.

how much is extended warranty?
