  • Getting phone button to work

    Hi all.

    I recently installed a rcd510 and 9w7 bluetooth module. Everything works great except for the phone button on the steering wheel.

    I know i have to go to module 16 steering wheel controls on vcds but what code do i need to activate the button?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

          The phone button will act as a mute button if there is no bluetooth module installed.

          Firstly check that you have enabled address 77 Telephone in the Canbus gateway installation list.
          Then check the following info for coding info on the steering wheel and BT module:

              What is the part number of your steering wheel controller? Address 19 from memory

                From What I have read, the 9W7 will not work with the mk5 (I also have it in mine).

                It only means you can only use the head unit to interact with the phone. I believe the only way to make it work is if you swap to a MK6 steering wheel.

                Also swapping to a cluster with white MFD will give you MFD menus for phonebook etc.

                I decided that's a bit too much work for now and just use my RNS-510 screen to use the phone.

                  Wow what a PITA.
                  I have a cheap Sony unit, I added the CAN-BUS adaptor for it and the phone button works, the star button does ATT mute.
                  No buttons to change tracks however.

                    I activated mine on a 2013 Beetle with this harness from Ebay. It replaced the harness between the bluetooth module and RNS510(in my case) You also need VCDS to activate it. It may or may not work in your case but something to look into.

                          Check the long coding helper for the module. I don't have the same module so I can't be sure that this is correct from the label file:

                          Steering Wheel Electronics (J527) Coding
                          0?xxxxx: Vehicle Type
                          0 = Normal / 1 = Special Purpose (e.g Taxi)
                          0x?xxxx: Transmission
                          0 = Manual Transmission
                          1 = Automatic Transmission
                          0xx?xxx: Steering Wheel
                          0 = Steering Wheel without Multifunction
                          1 = 3-Spoke Steering Wheel without Multifunction
                          2 = 3/4-Spoke Steering Wheel with Multifunction without Cruise & Voice Control
                          3 = 3/4-Spoke Steering Wheel with Multifunction with Cruise & Voice Control
                          0xxx?xx: Additional Equipment
                          +1 = Tiptronic (Shift Paddels)
                          0xxxx?x: Board Computer / Cruise Control System (CCS)
                          0 = w/o Board Computer and w/o Cruise Control System (CCS)
                          1 = with Board Computer and w/o Cruise Control System (CCS)
                          2 = w/o Board Computer and with Cruise Control System (CCS)
                          4 = with Board Computer and with Cruise Control System (CCS)
                          0xxxxx?: Rear Wiper
                          1 = Rear Wiper not installed
                          2 = Rear Wiper installed

                          If this is the correct label file then you have 0xx?xxx set to 2=3/4 spoke steering wheel with multifunction without cruise and voice control. Try changing this to 3 and test it ie your new coding will be 0013122.

                              Does your jetta have the dsg paddles? Think thats the only difference in the code. And rear wiper.
