They really get taken by surprise by a quiet 50 year old woman driving a stock "family wagon" with enthusiasm (and she doesn't even rev it before the lights change - don't want to give the competition any indication that they are about to get dusted.
Although 50 isn't old (not by me anyways - I'm 40), yr post immediately reminded me of the old Jan and Dean song "Little Old Lady from Pasadena"

"If you see her on the street, don't try to "choose" her
(Go granny, go granny, go granny, go!)
You might try to "go" her, but you'll never lose her!
(Go granny, go granny, go granny, go!)
Well, she's gonna get a ticket now, sooner or later
'Cause she can't keep her foot off the accelerator!

And everybody's saying that there's nobody meaner,
Than the little old lady from Pasadena
    She drives real fast and she drives real hard;
She's the terror of Colorado Boulevard

It's the little old lady from Pasadena...

Go granny, go granny, go granny, go!

Go granny, go granny, go granny, go!

The guys come to race her from miles around,
But she'll give 'em a length, then she'll shut 'em down"

Trade. Was given $16k for a 4 year old XR8 and 120k on the clock which was pretty decent. Best offer I got from Ford (when I was considering an XR5) was $10k, quite a number of Ford dealers refused to trade because 'no-one buys V8's anymore'.

I probably would have gotten more if I sold privately but I just didn't want the hassle.

Me too I don't want the hassle but like you I find the trade-in valuations laughable. Maybe they're using the rise in fuel costs (and the worsening economy) as an excuse to play down the demand for V8s. I think I'll try my luck with CarPoint.

Carpoint is great. Sold a car from it, works a treat.
