I highly recommend O'Briens Glass, just make sure you get an OEM / Genuine Windscreen from Volkswagen. Not an aftermarket replacement if you are doing it through insurance.

Looks like a smallish stone chip has decided to crack, and it's right in the middle of the drivers field of view.
Any suggested people for a windscreen replacement in Melbourne?
It may be repairable. I had a chip that was going to turn into a crack repaired many years ago, you wouldn't have ever known it was there, cost a fraction of the price and never had to worry if the replacement was going to leak.
i used obriens to change my mk5gti - i will NEVER recommend them to anyone!!!
1st problem - they didnt bring the right gel pad (bought a circular instead of square one) - so we had to wait for them to order it in.
2nd problem - refitting the new windscreen - they scratched all the casing behind the rear view mirror - so they had to replace all that
3rd problem - they didnt seal the glass properly - the other day when it poured, water decided to come in from the passenger side and above the accelerator so it dripped on my foot.
so now have had to take it in to them personally - get them to reseal it, and now they discovered that they didnt order a gel pad, so they have to order that in and they have to come and put that in again!!!
4th problem - there is air bubbles between the sensor and gel pad, so the rain sensor for the windscreen doesnt work properly or is too over enthusiastic or not at all
but spoke to VW - and they said that they can put the gel pad in for us, and do it properly (hopefully)
not happy JAN!!!
this has been going on for at least a few months now.
lucky insurance covers it all...but will never use them again.
Well, we'll see if Novus can do anything with it. Otherwise, I think I'll send it back to VW and pay whatever it costs (and argue with the leasing company later).

Not repairable if it's right in front of the driver unfortunately.
I had my screen replaced on the GTI last month due to chip on the passengers side.
My insurance company arranged for Instant Windscreens to do the work and they were great.
The insurance company transferred me direct to the local shop so they could get the details.
They rang me back within the hour to tell me they had a genuine spare in stock and which shop would be the most convenient for me to get to.
It was installed the next day, all sensors are working the same as before.
I was really pleasantly surprised by the friendly professional service.

I am glad that it worked out for you, however I find it highly unlikely that Instant Windscreen's of all places would have a genuine windscreen in stock.
Only Volkswagen can supply genuine windscreens.
Have a look and see if it has the VW logo on the glass and the manufacturer Pilkington or SEKURIT. Only then is it a genuine screen.

I'm away from home at the moment, and just got a phone call from the missus. R32 picked up another stone chip today...She's already had the Novus man come and repair it.
I guess the positive is that it isn't my beautiful paintwork, but what is it about R32 windscreens that attracts stones?
