There's something about the MK2. It's practical enough to have as your only car and daily driver. It's also good enough to give the Ricers a scare through corners.
The MK1 however puts a huge grin on your face when you drive one. It's really hard to describe but it's just so raw compared to modern cars. You have to work hard to get the best out of it but when you do it's pure magic.1978 MK1 2.0 16v http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...-46488-70.html

Having owned both mk2 and mk5 and driven a mk3 VR6, a tuned mk4 gti and a mk6 gti- I would have to say the mk2 is such a fun drivers car. There is definitely something they got right with that generation. The mk5 has the day to day comforts that just work- but I really do regret selling my mk2! (Shut up Paul
I have this dream that I'll one day buy it back off someone and it won't be trashed.sigpic07 GTI

In the past year there has been a lot of interest in MK2's and a few have gone to young guys who are switching from their late model GTI's. They have the money and passion to build what they want and aren't afraid to get their hands dirty doing most of the work themselves.
Great to see these cars getting the recognition they deserve.
And yes, you'll always regret selling your MK2. The feeling never goes away. I'd buy another in a heartbeat if my wife let me.1978 MK1 2.0 16v http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...-46488-70.html

Talking gti in Oz, well no Golf 1,Golf 2 was a 4 door 8 valve joke with a stolen badge,Golf 4 just needes another 50kw to make it move, but the best gti is always the latest one.Faster, turns better, stops and has more features as standard than the last one. Go and put a deposit on a golf 8.Widebody Cayman S Turbo, 83 ur Quattro

Every time I got out of my MK2 after a long drive I had a big smile on my face.1978 MK1 2.0 16v http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...-46488-70.html
