Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2011 Jetta 118 TSI CAVD Engine into a 2010 Jetta?

    Hey guys,

This is my first post here and apologies if it's in the wrong section.

So about 2-3 weeks ago I bought a 2010 Volkswagon Jetta 118 TSI (CAV). The engine died a few days ago and was told it needed to be replaced. I made the mistake of putting normal Unleaded petrol in and not premium which would have contributed

After a bit of research I've seen that this is a pretty common issue with this engine. So I've found a replacement engine that belonged to a 2011 Jetta 118 TSI CAV. My question is will this 2011 Jetta engine be a perfect fit into my 2010 Jetta? My engine number is CAV140584.

Is an engine from the 2011 model better than the 2010 one? I read that the Eco Mapping in the 2010 model contributed heavily to the engines getting damaged is that right? That was why I was looking for a 2011 engine so I could be sure that it came from a car that didn't have issues with the eco mapping.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks guys!

If you can, the improved 1.4 engine is the CTH.
