  • Just received GTI. Couple of questions

Hi everyone. After a wait of 3 months I finally took delivery of my white 3dr manual GTI last week. This car is amazing and I couldn't be happier with it.

A couple of things turned up after two weeks of driving though.

    1) I had the dealer install the OEM Ipod adaptor for me as part of the deal. Have to say that the functionality is every bit as crap as people on the forum made it to be. However I also discovered today that there is an auxiliary input jack in my glove box.

After looking around the forum, I came to understand that in order to activate the aux input, you keep pressing the CD button on the RCD 500 till AUX shows up. This failed to occur on my head unit. As I understand it (from the various sources on internet) the Ipod adaptor uses the external CD input source on the RCD 500 and therefor the AUX input should still be working.

Can someone who is in the know confirm this? If this is the case, I probably should chase down the dealer and get them to fix the AUX input.

    2) Just today when I started the car i noticed that the warning light for bulb failure came up. I have had a look around the car but so far haven't found anything. Anyone else had this happen?

I would really appreciate it if anyone has any information on these problems at all. Thanks in advance!

I don't even have the Aux input so can't help there.

Did the warning light come on with all of the warning lights when you first turned the key or just by itself?

Red may be the devils colour, but this car is pure heaven

Most aftermarket head units with an AUX input (including all of mine) have a setting in the menu to turn off the AUX input. It's designed so you can don't have to flick past an input your never going to use (if that's the case). The default setting is usually to show the AUX input, but in your case the dealer was probably being helpful and turning it off since you specifically got the iPod control...
Check out the manual and you should find your answer there.

On a side note, does the iPod control suck sooo much that you would move to the AUX input instead? If you do, your going to set your iPod to play on random and close the glove box, where you will no doubt forget to turn it off and run the battery flat.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Hi guys, thanks for the input.

The error light is on continuously, throughout the drive. Its not what happens when you first start your car and all the lights come on.

As to the aux input, I did look through the user manual and searched through the forums first. There is nothing in the manual that talks about how to activate the aux input. Also, the control does suck abit, but mainly i wish to plug other things into the aux input other than the ipod.

with the aux im not sure but with the globe warning light my gti done the same thing the first time i drove it at night after taking it back to the dealer they found the plug for the xenons wasnt in correctly which they said is a common problem during pre delivery. but once they plugged it in the warning light did not disapperar so i had to take it back again and they reset the software and now its all good. hope that helps
