Went and picked up my fathers new car today - Jetta TDI

Feels fantastic, engine has lots of torque but very narrow power band - DSG gearbox is more fun that I remember but parts of the interior are abit of a let down. (eg - Aircon vents at the back seem like they've been taken out of a Hyundai)

Well, after a very long evaluation covering some 10 cars, I have today signed up for a GTI Pirelli.... Should pick it up in a week or two..

It is black, comes with the DVD/GPS and rear parking sensors.. Sadly there aren't any one's with the Zenon's available...

It all came down to a car which is fun to drive and the cost/performance factor being within a good zone.

What 10 cars? Unless you had extremely wide selection criteria, there isn't 10 other hot hatches (or similar) in the aussie market.

Just got back from driving it back from Ipswich to Brisbane and then of course the obligatory "show the family" drive around.

And then to Mount Cootha for a nice hilly 2000 - 3500rpm break in run.

So happy I went with the DSG, its simply breath taking!

Edit: Cloth interior, DSG 5 door for those playing at home

Congrats! Just curious, does yours have the Euro plate holder on the front?

                        • Farewell skyline, hello Golf!

So after 5 years of ownership, i decided that it was time for my beloved skyline to go. Its treated me well, and in its final form, with its 205rwkw it was an absolute joy to hammer up in the hills with. But alas, my needs are beginning to change to something more practical, so a 2 door, modified coupe just didnt fit the bill anymore.

Initially, My top choice was the mazda3 sp23. Its not most the most popular selling hatch for no reason right? but i discovered quickly that it wasnt quite what i was looking. Golf's were never in the picture really because they just seemed expensive for what they were....until i sat in one. slowly i began to understand the premium it commands.

conservative but yet classic with the right touch of luxury. it wasnt an audi, but it was still a very nice place to be in.
So there my search for a golf started in earnest.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, we found a Golf that we wanted. a 2.0 TDI with DSG.
It turned out to be a Pacific model, and not only that, it had leather seats. Geez, this is going to be an expensive hatch.

In the end, we bargained as hard as we could, and got a price we could comprise on.
so now, we are the proud owners of a MY09 Golf Pacific 2.0 TDI with DSG and leather upgrade!

I dont know if i squeezed the dealer for everything i could have. Our drive away was 37000, with a full tank of diesel (and NO floor mats). but im happy with the price and honestly, i dont think they wouldve gone much lower. I hope i didnt overpay though.

I wasnt looking for leather initially but it made the car look so swish inside.
The car is brand new, but im not sure how to check if it was built in 08 or 09. on all the papers it says its 09, but is there a way to check?

i love the fat torque on the car, but im sure as hell going to miss my skyline. GTI or GT didnt quite appeal to me cause they still arent super fast, and they were over my budget.

one thing i couldnt believe was that HID's are optional. i wouldve thought it was standard for this car. i thought it strange since i was looking for a cliosport which has hids, auto lights on, rain sensors and other gagdets as standard.

But yeah, now i cant wait for the car to arrive! i may not go very fast, but at least itll be an easy and relaxing drive when i get to my destination!

After what was supposed to a 10 day wait, our manual TDi Pacific has finally arrived. Having purchased the car in the first week of December, we were told no problems, next week it will be here - how wrong they were! Without mentioning the dealer's name, one stuff up led to another stuff up which led to another stuff up which led to another stuff up..... I think you get the point - we were not a very happy campers.

Eight weeks later the car has arrived and I can say it was so very worth the wait! Immediately the surf boards were put on the roof and off we went. The car drives brilliantly and handles like a dream. The windy roads around Murwillumbah and Mount Warning were a great proving ground - I still smile now thinking about it. One thing though, where are the floor mats? I would have thought a 30K+ car would have such a basic feature as standard!?

That aside, what a great car!
Have to say that is a nice looking car

I am glad that there is more than one around

Seems a good price, mine was 36000 without leather, half a tank of diesel ( ) and floor mats in November last year.

In regards to the build date, open the hatch and lift up the carpet. There is a metal plate on the left hand side of the spare wheel that says "BUILD DATE SEP/08" in my case. Next to it is what I believe is the compliance plate which on mine has "10/08" for the date.
