I had my new rims fitted today, and I'm very happy with the look. I think the black rims go well with the UG paint, and the black bits on the exterior. They are 18" TIG-05's and I got them from Alloy's R us. They are not 'brand name' wheels obviously, but I'm not interested in paying $1000 a corner when I can have a great looking wheel for about 1/4 of the price. Time will tell what the quality is like, but they seem pretty well made.

I did a fair bit of research on boots, and after reading a Tire Rack review in which they were rated above the likes of the Conti Sports Contact 3's and Bridgestone Potenza RE050A's, I decided on some Sumitomo HTRZ III's . I got them for $215 a corner which is probably less than 1/2 what you would pay for the Conti's or Bridgestones. Initial impressions are very good, and the tyres have good road manners, and excellent grip.

I now have my 17" Classix rims and tyres for sale:

    Anyway here's some pics:

Very, very nice. EXACTLY what I've been dreaming about lately, saw a set of those rims on a grey skyline and thought it looked the berries. Black is definately the go with the grey, thanks for the pics man!

So about that house and new baby......

I know, I know, I'm a naughty boy, but in my defence, I didn't technically dip into the 'house and baby fund'. I got a refund on the projector headlights that were fogging up, and I sold a big screen TV (the new house has a projector in the theatre room ). So if I get a bit for my stock wheels, then the entire purchase will be covered .

The photos don't really do it justice, but I think it looks so much better than it did with the stock 17's, and I'm finally happy with the appearance of my Golf (although an R32 rear bumper wouldn't look too shabby ).

Ive also been thinking about similar rims.

As you said, the photos dont do them justice.
Do they look smaller in the photos or is it just me.?

Im sure they lok great in real life.

No you're spot on Logzy, the photos do make them look smaller. Another thing the photos don't really show is how deep the machined lip is. I think they give the car a bit of 'attitiude' for want of a better word, whereas I always found the stock rims looked a bit 'soft'. Don't get me wrong, the Classix rims are quite classy, but for mine, just not suited to a sports variant.

I did notice some rubbing when throwing the car at right angle corners where the road surface was a bit uneven. Nothing major, but I guess if you did a track day, you might have some issues.

I've taken an interest in the black 18" alloys too. Has anyone got pictures of them on a Red GTI? I've seen White and UG so far.

I know it's a taste thing, but I just can't warm to black wheels. It just looks like they haven't been cleaned.....

Its all taste, I personally have have a passion for black rims. They can look good as we can see in the pictures, if they were higher res and the lighting was better you would see how good they would look. My wheels look like crap when they're dirty as well, but come up shockingly well when cleaned.
