We ordered our 2.0TDI comfortline Golf in late 2005 & took delivery in early '06. It has been a fabulous car, lovely to drive & has been very reliable. No warranty work needed & the only replacement needed outside normal tyres, batteries etc. has been a new EGR valve. Well it looks like the honey moon is over, going from servicing to repairs.
The other day I noticed a slight noise on start up coming from the engine that would go away with a blip of the throttle.
I decided to investigate & take a look. I figured it was in the multirib drive belt area, read a bit & decided to dismantle things. The belt was near new condition, automatic tensioner & pulley was good but the alternator pulley was slightly suspect. After googling it, it seems as if the free wheeling pulley has a short limited life. A trade journal that a friend passes on to me says that they start needing replacement at around 80,000km. Mine has done 85,000km.
The Americans say between 60,000 to 80,000 miles. I am surprised that I haven't read about this on this forum.
The other problem I am facing is the outer driveshaft boot replacement that has a small split where it clamps to the driveshaft. Thankfully both repairs are quite cheap but a fair amount of work for me.
