Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

With you on that one. Have a feeling the subscriptions won't come cheap. Both VicRoads and RTA have the potential to transmit the data with a bit of modification to hardware etc. as Both states should be able to link speeds and accidents from certain intersections from SCATS and IRIS and then filter out the info and send it to the GPS. Should also transmit the speed for a given road as well.

Mind you there's also a pretty penny can be made from the private sector...

Should put out a free version which is exactly like the full version but has adverts.... So say you're coming up to fred bloggs' joint an advert comes up for 5 seconds.... And you pay a premium to get rid of the ads.

Nav units are a godsend for some people and perhaps a wank for others. Nobody is forced to buy one, so why would you care?

Because they can't afford one or because they don't value the clean lines of an oem unit and all the extra functionality the RNS510 provides. The person writing the article clearly has not lookied at units like the RNS510 which are leap years ahead of the older oem units.

Affordability wasn't a factor (for me anyway ), the nav cost was negligable on my GTI through my company pricing but i started to look seriously at it when i would be delayed by another 3 months in getting the car because of it. I have an ipod and definately wouldn't watch DVD's at the traffic lights so half of the features were unnecessary so it came down to pure nav ability and how often i use my current nav system. I just thought the article was interesting.

It's not live in Brisbane so I don't know.

They also won't answer their emails as I've been asking when in Brisbane, how much and will it work with all the standard devices out there (like the RNS510) or is it locked to the two models they have listed as working with it. If it only works with these two models they've screwed themselves and they deserve to go broke.

Maybe one day they will bother to answer their emails, as this stage I fell like telling them to get stuffed.

interesting but i still think they charge too much for them, but at least incorporating other functions now as well. My $200 pda solution with Co Pilot works a treat.

Hmmm isn't the data transferred by FM band, hence meaning you need a receiver of some sort?

Yes, you do need a receiver, but the RNS510 has one, dedicated to TP, built in. Enabling the TP results in it finding those local stations that have the TP subprogram, and looking through the station list, it now shows TP next to the stations that transmit the data.

But, I haven't heard or seen a peep out of it, so I don't know if it's actually getting any data or not. Also, there seems to be no way to type in any access code, so as best I can see, if they are encrypting their data, then they've tied themselves to a couple of aftermarket boxes, and abandonded the installed base. Doesn't strike me as a good business model.

My wifes MFD2 system in her MKV has TP as well, all it does if you switch it on is cause the radio to cutout for a second every few minutes. When we got the car i thought it was a fault but VW service switched it off, they said its not used in Australia at all and was enabled by mistake.
