Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Have you got your new Jetta yet.
I would have thought VW would have wanted it sold and registered before the 1st of July.
        Please keep us updated.

They actually just called me this morning. Pick it up tomorrow at 4pm. I would have also thought that, but hey.

So more importantly, anyone want to buy a Cefiro?

one more thing i thought of that i find annoying.
the centre console storage compartment ... you have to open it nearly all the way before you can close it.
            but enjoy your new ride.

Nothing like dissapointment to forget the impending delivery date.

Oh, it doesn't say above that I'm from Sydney.

No it's not - just because it has a mode of control where a computer chooses gear for you does not make it an automatic. There's no fluid coupling, no torque converter, no flaring as it engages gears, no need for any sort of "lock up" function because if it's in gear, it's locked, end of story. The DSG is a dual clutch gearbox. There's no clutch pedal because there's no need for one with this arrangement.

The fun in driving a manual isn't in engaging your left leg, or in moving a stick side to side a bit as you move it forward and back - it's in the control a manual gearbox gives you, and driven in manual mode, you get exactly the same control with a DSG gearbox as you do with a traditional manual, minus the left leg aerobics and missed gates because you pushed too hard in a direction you shouldn't have.

As a bonus, you get gearchanges that are faster than you could achieve manually, better power delivery and better fuel consumption than with a traditional manual or automatic gearbox.

                    What's not to love?

Haha, that's not a bad call.

The price of optioning it isn't the best either

Yeah, I wouldn't have bought an auto. I found the dsg for want of a better word 'thought/thinks' more like a manual driver would. Holds speed better going down hill over an auto. Really after 4.5years of a carbon button 3600lb clutch mixed with the rest of my car, I'm very happy to not have a clutch I have to think about.

                              Just a query on this.....
from a standstill it behaves like an auto. is this the clutches slipping until you have enough speed up for them to engage fully?

For whatever reason all the leaves and debris that lands on the rear windscreen gets trapped behind the rear bumper next to the tail lights, I didn't think it was much of a problem initially but it's seriously corrected a lot of leaves in there and each time I push on it I can hear the leaves and small twigs in there crackling away, should I take it back to the dealer to get it fixed up and all the leaves taken out of it?
