Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Tough to say its not a golf with a boot. Same chassis, drivetrain, engine and gearbox (if you have a TFSI). As far as i am concerned its the same car except for cosmetic differences and suspension. Everything that makes it a 'car' though is the same.

From my calulations if you get the car for 39k on road that is what a fleet customer would pay. So you should be happy with that as a 'regular joe'.

The Golf and Jetta are similar cousins, but quite diffirent.
      Both smash hits worldwide.
I think the Jetta is a bit more car for a bit more money, and is targeted more upmarket.
I personally like a sedan, and that boot is the best ever, thats why I chose the Jetta over a Golf, and its competitors.

39 ooo on the road sounds very low,as that is 1000 below list price, and the on roads are over 5000.
With a saving of over 6000,I would say go for it.
Saw a Grey turbo at Camberwell VW yestorday...looked very good in the new colour.

Agree Anthony, i also chose the jetta for similar reasons.

          in regards to price
          39990k for the car less 10% = 36000
Rego and CTP = $550 (approx)
Dealer Delviery = $990 (at fleet price)
          Stamp Duty = $1400 (approx)
          = 39k basically.

10% of the price of the car, and a reduction in dealer delivery is basically your fleet discount. Hence why i said if you can get fleet pricing as a 'regular joe' your doing really well.

Yeah, I'll aim for the $39k flat then I think. Atm they have told me $40 700, and said fleet would be about the same if not more... I mean I dont trust a word these guys say. They kept asking 'but are you happy with the price' which gives me the hint THEY are happy with it, but I could be happier.

Haha - every single person I have shown the Jetta's boot to has taken a step back to look at the outside, and then the inside, and then the outside ... and so on. Total disbelief. We also bought the boot liner, which is awesome - no more vacuuming out the boot after the wife comes home with 10 bags of potting mix with every other one split at the seams.

What do I like best about the Jetta (other than the boot)? The little things: the auto dimming rear view mirror, the heated seats (leather option), the chilled glove box, the auto headlights.

Seriously, the thing that pisses me off the most is that the centre console is about 5mm too short to fit a CD case in. Geez!

So how do you describe the even bigger boot in the Skoda Octavia RS hatch (let alone the cavernous rear compartment in the wagon) ?

By its name. a regular joe is going to say a what? skoda. wtf is that.
and then the resale value will plummet.

a lot of people still dont know what the hell a Jetta is. You have to give them a history on the Bora and then tell them how the name changed to Jetta in Oz.

Sorry, I thought we were talking about the size of boots, not brands of cars. Obviously I was mistaken

FWIW, I keep my vehicles for 10 years or more, after that long resale value is pretty well irrelevant. If you are really concerned about depreciation you would NEVER buy a brand new car, as you lose so much $ value just by driving off the showroom floor. Much more fiscally sensible to buy one that is 18 or 24 months old (but this is nowhere near as viscerally satisfying as gatting a brand spanker).

Won't be doing skoda, want the auto.

Either way. Anything else I should know? Tomorrow is looking good for sign my life away day.

Just this morning I went through my junk mails and found the pamphlet from local VW dealer (Chatswood NSW) had some deals on selected new/used VW cars last weekend (choice of driveaway price, free Samsung LCD or something else - I forgot). Eventhough it wasn't national VW mkt campaign but it should give you more ammo in price negotiation, esp. this time of end of fin. yr coming up soon I'm sure dealers are more willing to cut a deal.

So think the $40700 driveaway as the upper limit, then anything below it would be your extra savings, ie. try not to pay more than $39k driveaway as it's would be a good deal?

So why aren't Jetta values plummeting then? What, are they good or something? A regular Joe also drives a commodore and look at how well they hold their value!

$39k with some accessories is what I'm going to be aiming at. I don't think they will be real keen, but should work. That or $41k with leather, which I think will really be testing the friendship. But hey, gotta ask the question. Sometimes rude offers work.
