Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yeah, was only in it for 10mins, but its got a bit of poke, given the power and the weight. I think I like the dsg in D. I think it thinks more like a manual driver would.
And I'm coming from a heavily modified nissan cefiro. LOTS of suspension and brake works. To give a comparison, its faster round a track than an R32 golf, and engine mods all I have is 11psi, exaust and a chip, and its an RB20DET. So coming from that, quite impressed with the jetta.2008 Jetta 2.0 TSI

have had our Jetta for a few months now.. done around 7000k's. have to say i love the car in general. the boot space is awesome for our pram and lots of things can fit in with it, baby seat fitted in reverse posy leaves heaps of room for the front passenger (something we were concerned about with a Golf GTI/R32) power of the engine is adequate and quite nimble. dsg is really good (all our other cars are manual). roll back on hills is off putting initially till you know what to expect then its fine. Auto headlights and wipers work well. seats (cloth trim here) are quite comfy and easily adjusted etc.
petty complaints....
to put on the fog lights the headlights must come off auto.
rear demister doesn't work fast enough.
steering wheel controls when in stereo operation should be able to change cd's not just the track.
bloody cup holders are not deep enough to actually hold anything still whilst cornering.
bottle opener that goes into the centre of the cup holders is useless... except as a bottle opener of course.
hope you enjoy the car as i know we certainly do.1974 1300 Beetle, 1997 Golf GL, 2003 New Beetle Cabrio, 2014 Audi A4 quattro

Anyway. No options other than metalic paint. $40700 drive away no more to pay, for the turbo FSI that is. How do people think that sits? That was no bargining, just the price they gave me out of the box.
Either way, I'm going back for a good 1-2hour test drive next Saturday, they have already locked me in for that. Give it a good run over roads I drive everyday so I know what its really like. Give the stereo a flog etc. All feels right so far.
Also being the less established brand than VW Jetta in Oz, I think you should be able to negotiate more discountsLast edited by Dubdabest; 15-06-2008, 11:04 PM.2006 MY07 Jetta 2.0 TFSI Reflex Silver, DSG, Sunroof, Bi-Xenon, Leather

coming from Honda, I can say that build quality is exception in the Jetta.
I've had mine since april but unfortunately since I'm travelling, I haven'd had much time to enjoy it.
I've put about 300kms on it so far and I have the 08 model which has MP3 playback. The car in general feels very stable and coming from an NA car it feels good to have a bit of boost on tap, although I have previously driven FD's and R34's as well...
In comparison to your ceffy, which sounds like a mean car, you can't compare the 2 as you said ur ceffy was heavily modified. Coming from that background back to a stock standard car will feel like "ehhh wtf?" because I felt like that too at one point. But for what it is, (the jetta) it's quite a nice comfortable car, nothing too crazy and there are always turbo upgrades available as well (however this will cost quite a bit, you may have to saw your left arm and your right testicle off and sell it on ebay to pay for the mods)
in general, the jetta is a nice quick car and basically its a 5 door golf GTI with a boot. Only gripe I have is that it's not a manual and although I love the DSG gearbox, at the end of the day it's still an auto and personally I love stick shift as that, to me, is more fun rather than tiptronic (although with the new golf GTI's you can get flappy paddles behind the wheel so u can change it when ur in tiptronic mode, rather than pushing up and down on the gearstick...and you can get that wheel and pop it on the jetta, but of course this will cost money as well)

1 thing i noticed on the weekend that i didnt like on my DSG is that it startles when you let go engaged in D to drive off slowly without gas pedal.
its like its going to stall, i know this is the clutch but sometimes its annoying, esp at drive through fast food.
how much to replace the dsg clutch?

Perhaps it's because I've been driving manuals for the last 10 years but I tend to reach for the stick if I'm in 'manual' mode.

have always driven manuals. actually prefer them to autos but my jetta did not have the option of 6sp manual so dsg it had to be.. haven't had the paddles so dont know if its just a gimmick or not but would be nice to have them anyway.1974 1300 Beetle, 1997 Golf GL, 2003 New Beetle Cabrio, 2014 Audi A4 quattro

Had my TDI for 20mths now.....still love it, outstanding on fuel...so 5.1l /100 k and that is averaged since purchasing so cant complain about that...has 51000 on the clock now. Put it in Sports mode on the DSG and they are quick around town minus all the roll back spoken about.
Next thing is ...disregard any comment about Jettas, being a Golf with a boot...they are not, there is no panel on a Jetta that comes from a Golf or vice versa. Speaking of boots..the Jettas is bigger than Commonwhores or Falcooons.
