Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MKV GTI - ebay aftermarket window switches work on Aus cars?

Looking to replace all switches showing wear: windows, lights, mirror, fuel etc.

Have found some cheaper ebay sources (local dealership wants ~$500!) e.g. 7 Chrome Switch Headlight Mirror Window Fuel FOR VW VW Jetta Golf Tiguan Passat | eBay

However conflicting reports on whether these work on our Australian right hand drive cars. ebay retailers also unsure. Maybe 4 button driver's side switch is wrong way around (?) but others should be fine?

Have seen reference to Aus cars successfully buying ebay replacement switches from a few years back: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...hes-66996.html

Anyone care to vouch for these working and their quality or alternative source?

    Hey toggle,

The eBay link just opens the front page for some reason..
I have bought a light switch for my MK5 and it works fine.

The window switches I wouldn't know though.

have corrected link in above post.

They appear to be the silver tipped MK6 switches but don't mind the upgrade.

        Further...

The following passenger ebay switch: Electric Window Switch Button FOR Golf MK5 MK6 Jatta Passat Polo Scirocco Tigua | eBay

ebay reseller indicates his switch won't work on my right hand drive Aust car, but doesn't provide a reason.

His equivalent vw part no is: 7L6 959 855 B

Having just pulled the stock single switch off my car, part no is: 1F0 959 855

What does the difference in part prefix refer too (colour looks the same)?

Can't see how the ebay switch would not work?

I bought a chrome light switch and window masterswitch of a member not knowing they were no genuine.
They came in genuine looking boxes.
Have never fitted the window masterswitch but fitted the light switch and after 6 months I had to remove it due to it not
fitting as good as the factory switch and rattling.

I'd also love to know the answer to this, I've been looking to upgrade to chrome switches for a while.

I've contacted Bold-Sport.com 3 times via email to ask the question of this set (Bold-Sport.com :: CC Chrome Switch Full Set for 4 doors) being compatible with RH Drive cars with no response.
