Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Intermittent Dash Light Warnings

Hi Guys, I'm experiencing some intermittent electrical problems with my MkV GTI.

Three dash lights are coming on intermittently. The power steering, traction control & wheel pressure lights have been coming on and off, either from start up or while driving.

    1. The power steering warning light (yellow) will come on (& off) if I turn the wheel left or right while driving.
    2. the traction control turns off (indicated by the yellow dash light) and cannot be turned off.
    3. The tyre pressure indication light comes on and cannot be reset.

Then they go out with no problems till next time.

Local dealer (at Maitland) charged be $114 to check it and commented that it may have something to do with the battery being disconnected causing a fault. They cleared the fault but problems came back a couple of days later.

I've owned the Golf since new, 115k on the clock.

Hoping the forum may be able to point me in the right direction and I've recently lost my job so having an idea before going back to the dealer may help to keep my costs down.

    Cheers

Those three systems are linked together.

There should have been fault codes stored in the car, that would have indicated where the issue may be.

I'd be going back to the dealership, and getting it re-scanned. Hopefully without paying this time.

          Sounds like battery.
Have you checked to make sure battery terminals are nice and tight?
Also how old is your battery?
Might be getting time to change.
