Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

If you dont mind the rich high society types around here looking down their bifocals at you, just do what i did and buy a $250 catless version off ebay and add a $150 cat to it.

Check out my thread for more details if your interested.

If you really need the brand name and the "street/forum cred to go with it...
              APR
              CTS
              42 Draft Designs
              Megan Racing
*Insert fancy name brand(that is pretty much the same anyway) here*

You can go off the rails with expensive brand name mods or there is plenty of cheaper options.
Considering yours will remain a daily driver, figure out what you really want to end up with and how much you would rather not go past spending and then prioritize which parts should have more spent on them.

Yea I'm not stressed on a name brand, just want something that'll do the job properly and not break the bank.

You bought an obx one didn't you?

No, i was considering the OBX due to it being the cheapest catted DP i could find but i went with a generic non catted version from Perth. I think he has since upped his prices to $350 though?
You could still get one from China for a bit over $200 if your willing to wait. EDIT: Maybe not anymore.

The OBX system looks to be the same unit(if not very similar) to the XForce systems available locally. The cat appears to be the same size and in the same position on both and they are the only 2 units i have seen with the cat in that position.

The OBX can be had for around $350 in total with shipping from the US(at the time i checked).

Who did you buy yours off in Perth?

I was considering an invida downpipe, but they are $1k alone

The $350 in my previous post should be hyperlinked for your convenience
He also takes offer so you might get him down a bit if your not too much of a low baller.

P.S. I can also link you the catalytic converter i used if your gonna go that way.

Empire performance's down pipe still advertised on Gumtree for $249.
I'd call and check pricing. From Caffiene's, looked pretty decent quality.
Money saved can go towards a tune.

Or just knock out the stage 1 cat in the OEM downpipe (leaving the 2nd cat in place for legality). It works surprisingly well. I guess having an 800cell cat right next to the turbo outlet tends to slow down the gas flow a bit.
