Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hey guys, I just put a deposit on a 2007 my08 3 door Gti so excited to pick it up this week!

87000kms, dsg, full books, leather, sunroof, the lot!

Now it's researching stuff to get done [emoji23][emoji23]

Mods wise, It's going to be a daily driver, so I don't want to spent heaps of money on it, just simple mods.

What size exhaust, intake etc do you all recommend?

    Cheers

    Nice buy green!

If its gonna be a daily driver then legality should be high on your priority list.
An aftermarket intake does not give good power per $ ratio but if you do get one, make sure it is enclosed so it meets Aus design rules.

For my money, i would add a 3" downpipe and get a CPU tune.
Mine came with a tune and intake so i saved money there but having been in a friends stock Mk5 GTI since buying mine, the CPU tune is without a doubt the best thing you can do to wake these up.

Good luck and happy modding green

Hi Greengti89, mine has an APR tune which comes with the ability to turn it on or off yourself through the cruise control stalk, I recommend that one. Have had it 2 years with no probs.

Thanks mate! I just looked up the Apr tune. Pretty Pricing, but the results look good

Whoa me too the price has gone way up!!

Stick with Revo and DNA Tuning which should be under $1k. The gains are very similar.

Yeah, i spoke to an APR dealer while i was in Canberra recently and he wanted more than $2k for a stage 2 tune!?!?!?!??!

Mine has a GIAC tune which i found a receipt for $895 in the glove box but im sure that price would have gone up a bit by now.
I'm gonna have it removed shortly though due to my mods starting to near the edge of what the tune is safe to handle.
I would(and will do shortly) go with ETuners who have a ECU + DSG custom tuning package for just over $1k from memory.

Yea I am sussing all of my options. Apr seems to get the best results, but the pricing is ridiculous. I also have no idea what brand cat and downpipe to buy.

                Such a tough decision [emoji23]

I can recommend spec-tune. You buy the controller from their site Tarmac Engineering and is shipped locally.
Local support in Brisbane and Australia wide. Many interstate have ordered it and are running it.

You can choose from 3 tunes and can remove them as you wish. They sell intakes and the downpipes as well.
Mine really works well with the tune w/ intake and DP. And still is a fantastic daily.

Warning though. When the mod bug bites, you cant stop.

Thanks for your input mate, how does your DSG go without running a tune on that as well?

Oh im pretty good with holding back on mods. It's a daily that i want a bit of fun in. I've gone all out before and i cant justify the $$$$ to spend on a car.

'69 camaro, thats a different story though haha

DSG goes fine with the tune but I put on a dsg tune as well and that makes a difference too.

Increases the torque limit from 400nm to 500nm I think. - will need to check that.

                      Reduces wear on clutches.
                      Makes sport mode more drivable.
Shifts are smoother and more instant.

Cars do become money pits but these are worth it

I don't think there is a wrong brand. They are all good and work. I've driven apr and custom code tuned cars etc.

I felt that the apr car felt more awake and had a bit more acceleration but with mine it's more linear and smooth on the power. Which is what I like about my tune.

Yea I get that, I guess I haven't driven anything tuned, so not 100% sure what the difference is.
