Hi Guys,

Well today is the day, had my heart set on a Tornado DSG with all the options. No can do unless you wait 4 months +. Got the call today that they've found a Tornado with everything but the satnav and xenons and its arriving in 3 weeks!!, can't wait only 3 weeks to go!!

If you really want the sat nav, don't let the dealer talk you into taking the 'old' system. VW are mucking about with making the RNS510 available for post delivery fitment, and one dealer told me that they wouldn't be until they gotten rid of all of the old units. It can be acquired and fitted without using them.

I doubt i'll bother to tell you the truth but yes they did try it on. I already have a nice TomTom that rocks, i wouldn't use the dvd option and i have an ipod so pretty much sorted. My wife has the old system in her comfortline its ok but it looks really dated compared to the tomtom.

What truth? What they tried on, or why the RNS510 isn't available?

I talked to the dealer when I got my car and they said that xenons can't be fitted later since the headlight assembly is different. I dunno how much truth there is in what they say, but all these options are quite pricey.

Yep i know about the xenons, i think its one of those nice if you can get it options although i could hire a man to sit on the bonnet with a spotlight for the price. I don't have them in my current ride so i don't know what i'm missing lol.

The dealership tried to say don't worry we can retrofit the old SatNav into your car when it arrives. They don't put the RNS510 in as a previous poster said

I picked up my 08 gti today and asked them about NAV.. they said that the MFD2 retrofit was a WHOPPING 3.1k and that the RNS510 kit is not yet available and they have no ETA on it.

I dare say an as new MFD2 on ebay for USD$800 is the better bet at this point

Incidentally... got PDC fitted at the dealer.. they put in a 'Haddi PAS-401' I actually prefer it to the oem fitted one thanks to the distance screen. They just mount it in the black bumper so no need to colour code the sensors to the car.

Well done, what colour did you get? I've seen the MFD2 sell as low as $550 on ebay, but using my wifes i wouldn't bother no mp3 capability which is critical for me + my tomtom calls out the directions in the voice of Jean Luc Pichard "Prepare to engage" sad i know

You can get an RNS-510 from a third party too - there's at least one person on these forums who bought theirs after-market.
