  • Bought a mk5 tdi and have some questions.

    Hi guys,

Recently bought a 2007 MKV Golf TDI and have some general questions about it. Firstly, the car has done 139,500 and was recently serviced. I'm thinking of changing the oil and filter myself for peace of mind. The car has full service history and was serviced at Jade auto repair, Rosebery which has decent rep around the forums. I live in south west sydney and wondering if someone can suggest a decent mechanic who does proper log book servicing and provides service summary like Major mechanics do.

Secondly, this is the first time me owning a turbo diesel car and was wondering any general guildelines in relation to its maintainence? Thirdly, I've noticed after coming home and parking the car, I can see bit of smoke under the hood or around the rocker cover, it smells like diesel/oil burning but it goes away soon after. I cant see any oil leaks under the car however I did notice that the engine oil is filed over the max sign whilst checking the oil indicator. I am not sure if that plays any part.. Couple of guys suggested it may be leaky fuel pump.

Thanks in advance and BTW if someone selling leather seats, door inserts and RCD510 for MKV, please contact me. I cant stand the cloth trim.

Also, what oil people are using for TDI. I was thinking of going with penrite oils as they worked 'great in my MPS.

Just remember if your doing it your self ,you have to use a 5W /30 fully synthetic oil which will cost about $70 for 5 litres read the label make sure its VW approved
All RCD 510 after Mark 5 will work

Being a 2007 model you will need a canbus upgrade prior to installing an RCD510 because you will experience the battery drain issue. Just remember to factor that into your project pricing. It's not a huge expense.

Thanks Ian , will be getting some penrite enviro oil which appears to be VW approved.

Thanks snerlo for your input. Just received rcd510, Bluetooth module and Canbus gateway. Can't wait to install it and just need someone with vagcom in Sydney to do the programming. Happy to pay..😊

BTW any guides around for Bluetooth module install?I was able to find guides for rcd510 and Canbus but nothing for the module.

On a side note, had a bit of issue with the car refusing to start. I parked the car on a slight uphill and about 6 hours later it refused to start.

It was cranking over though but no signs of starting. Anyways, after bit of Google, it appears to be tandem pump issue. I was able to start by flooring the throttle. It such a pain as I now need to be mindful of where to park the vehicle. Can anyone suggest VW specialize mechanic around south west Sydney. I was thinking of taking the car to muller and Muller in lakemba

Guys, just doing a bit of research on Camden GTI and some members didn't have good experience with them. I know it just couple of reviews but love to know other people's opinion.

At end of a day, my vehicle is just a runaround and don't want to be ripped off but still want the issue sorted out.
