but the service history and conditions are not disclosed on the ad... timing belt n water pump $1k, new manual.trans clutch $2k, better tyres $1k, cam follower history, etc etc..

I would definitely make sure the car is checked by a mechanic before buying. For that price, there is a good chance that there are a few things that would need to be done within 6 months of purchasing this GTI, regardless of roadworthy or not. Otherwise, looks pretty damn good!!
