Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Resonator Delete FSI

    Hey guys,

I was thinking about doing the resonator delete to my MK5 Golf FSI 2.0 for the time being until I save up for an exhaust system. Any recommendations on places to take it to?
Has anyone done it with the same model? If so how does it sound?

    Thanks guys!

    peace

my son did it on his, all it did was make it loud, without being sporty, and it was annoying inside while driving. ideally, a small hotdog style straight through resonator would be best in place of the original!

I did the Res delete about 2 weeks ago.

At idle it made a slight difference to the exhaust volume once warmed up.
At cruise speeds, it made a noticeable but not obnoxious difference.
Giving it a bit of a boot and on boost is where i noticed it most though. Once on boost it gets a bit angrier and now i have DSG farts to go with it.

In lou of an actual custom or prefab exhaust, it is a great value for money mod. Be aware that it makes absolutely no difference to power though, only sound.

Mine cost $150 but i also had my subframe bolts replaced while it was on the hoist.

        Thanks for the feedback ericcs.

@Caffeine $150 really? Where from? I got quoted $80 for it to be done!

Yeah i'm not looking for power out of it just the sound.. haha yeah the DSG farts sounds so cool! My mate has it done to his mk6 gti.
Not sure if it's worth doing it to mine though as I don't have DSG or boost, might just go for a catback.
