    MKV Battery Awkward Fit?! Century DIN75LMF

    Hi guys,
    Got a new heavy duty battery, according to Century website (where you input your car make and model), it recommended the DIN75LMF. So I ordered one.
    When I removed my old battery, which was a LION one, the Century battery looked a fair bit bigger/longer, nonetheless it still 'fit' in the space, however the standard VW plastic housing for the battery doesn't fit around the Century battery, and therefore the top plastic cover will also not fit.
    Anyone else had this issue? Have I bought the wrong battery? Should I just remove all the plastic trimmings?
    The battery seems to work fine.

    Probably the wrong one if it wont fit. Some will go in if not in an enclosure Joys of a VW

      You might find that your original battery was 242mm x 175mm x 190mm.
      The new battery sounds like a Varta E44; 278mm x 175mm x 190mm.

      You can pick up a new battery case (soft) with cover; VW Part No. 1K0915411B to suit the larger size battery.

      I have the above brand new in plastic wrap, PM me if interested.

        The Century battery I bought for my Mk5 TDI is DIN65 LH which is from memory 660 CCA. It fitted perfectly. The previous Century was a lower battery that was recommended by Century & didn't fit properly. I found out later that it was only 580CCA.
        I wouldn't personally buy on line for a battery, too much of a problem [for me] to return it where as, if it doesn't fit, take it straight back.
        As a matter of fact the current battery is a replacement for the one they sold me with the poles reversed.
        The manufacturers recommendation is not always spot on. If you want a heavy duty one, "that will also fit". They just want you to buy their product & it's your problem if it doesn't fit quite right.
        I was told that the one I bought is the same as fitted to the VE Commodore so if mine gives up while travelling away I will have a good chance of buying a replacement in the outback. Probably why it says made in Aust. stamped in the top. The previous battery was made in Asia somewhere.
        Incidentally I paid $134 at the end of March this year so I wonder how that compares with online prices.
        Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

          I don't think I'm too fussed about the casing - (should I be? is it a climate thing? if so, probably not a big issue in AU).
          I'm more so wanting a secure fit - i.e. battery not flying around my engine bay as I corner!

          To be clear, the battery 'fits' in the battery space ... but the plastic housing doesn't fit quite right, and therefore the lid also does not fit.

            I believe the casing is to stop too much heat from getting to the battery particularly in hot weather after shut down with all the residual heat. VW have been using covers from memory back to the Mk3 Golf, so early nineties.
            My brother in law had a v8 petrol Ford truck that he used to cart grain to the silo. He would take the last load in the day & position the truck in the queue ready to unload the following morning. The following morning the battery was finished & he said it got so hot the casing had vulcanised onto the battery tray. Anyway that's my theory & I stand being corrected by anyone with better explanation.
            Edit. Picked up a sales leaflet from VW about their batteries today. It says "INTENSE HEAT & extended downtimes cause batteries to self-discharge, & thus shorten their service life."

              Had the same issue with Supercharge battery. Website says MF77 for 06 Golf Gti mk5. Went to Autotbarn to grab one but it didn't look right to me. Popped the bonnet, measured, went back inside and measured the other batteries with similar specs and found that their MF66H 750CCA fits perfectly. I emailed Supercharge to let them know. BTW, the old battery was a Century DIN65LH 660CCA.
              2006 Golf GTI Mk5 Black, stock except 19" RS4 style wheels and lowered on H&R springs.

                Post 3 is the correct answer

                or try running your cables outside the case

                or take the battery back where you bought it and get the right size. A good battery place will accommodate you

                    Anyone know how much 1K0915411B is worth? I have this same issue but figured the insulation was not that important.

                        Just quote the part number at your Local VW Spare Parts, they will get you a price.
