  • Aftermarket Alarm or Factory Alarm upgrade

Anyone know if an aftermarket alarm can be installed in the MKV? I've heard some stories that yes it can but its really difficult or the whole dash has to come out, other stories where some installers dont want to touch it at all, and some stories where the person who has installed it and completely f**ked the electrics.

OR can the stealerships install the "factory" alarm as an upgrade or does it have to be installed in the "manufacturing" process??

    Anyone have any experience?

Just out of interest - what is so bad about the factory alarm?

Perhaps this is a golf that doesn't come with the factory alarm as standard?

This is a Jetta that has no factory alarm and I didnt buy it for $590.

If i had known the Viper would be a headache to put in I wouldve got the factory.

want to know if i can install factory alarm now or buy an aftermarket and see if that works.

Seems like absolutely no one has installed an aftermarket in OZ on a MKV and a lot of installers dont like to touch them.

What features of an alarm do you actually want?

People by and large ignore the sirens (since so many get triggered with false alarms), and I suspect the Golf comes with ignition isolation as standard (that's generally the other feature of an alarm).
          Nothing to see here...

I'd like one that gives you a pulse if you were to walk right up and try and peer into the window. The R32 alarm requires you to actually break something before it'll go off.

I had one of these alarms. It was the most annoying thing ever. Passers by would set it off, I was constantly switching resetting it. And it eventually earned my a visit from the police (I had a complaint from a neighbour that it kept going off late at night).

I remember seeing an alarm like that in the USA. A bunch of kids were having a great time setting it off...over and over. And they didn't even have to touch the car.

Alarms are pointless in this day and age, they are seen as nothing but an annoyance. If you really want to protect your car then invest in a GPS tracker or something. from what i have heard the factory immobiliser is up to scratch and will prevent all but the most determined thieves from taking your car.

                    Hi mate,

                    If you are in Sydney and still thinking about this but I had a FULL aftermarket system installed in my Mk V GTi by;

ask for Leon and mention me (terry with the Black Golf GTi)

Yes it was very complex and they actually had the guy from South Africa out here, who was in Melb to come out to see how it could be done. As mine was the first ever to be done in Oz. I have a fully integrated alarm as well as keypad installed. now looking to have the Touareg done but this is another story.
