I have a price list that i got from a dealer in late FEB and it has Dealer Del @ $1995.00.

Disregarding Corporate/Fleet discount of 10% which VW give, what kind of price reduction should i be looking at off the dealer? The dealer has 2 cars in stock with these options. Do VW dealers even negotiate? or because the car is in demand they don't have to?

I decided to go new as the price people are wanting for secondhand cars is absurd, wether they get the price or not is a different story, but i never bothered trying with any. As i think if they beleive a second hand car with 30,000kms is worth the same as a new one then i'll let them go.

    Thanks.
i purchased mine at $42,300(on road)on 7th April this year with $2k deposit.
Still waiting for it. ETA would be early July. does that sounds bout right?

oh btw, thats with corporate/fleet discount.

The specs are white candy, 5 doors, DSG, parking sensor, bi-xenon headlight, bluetooth phone kit.

Not true. ABN discounts are for the farmers mate!

        There are two levels of corporate discount;
5% off for a PTY LTD company that has between 5-25cars registered to its name.
10% off is for a PTY LTD company that has over 25 cars registered to its name.

The company has to be registered with VGA and then you have to prove that you work for that company.

The discount only applies to the vehicle price exclusive of GST, not the retail price. The discount does not apply to any extras, factory fitted or not. If the vehicle dips into the LCT threshold then you have to pay for that also.

The full corporate discount goes beyond what the front door margin in the car is and yes VGA does help the dealer out with this.

Dealer delivery in both cases goes down to 995 inc of GST.

If you ask the dealer for freebies on top of that what you are doing is asking them to dip into their own pocket to sell you the car.
So don't get upset when they say no.

If you are not entitled to the corporate discount, you really shouldn't expect any more than 5%.

It really does amaze me how alot of people on the web rave about how good the Golfs are but most are always ready to de-value the car or the buying experience but thinking they can get $10k off the car. So what your really saying is that its not worth its sticker price?

If you can't afford the sticker price you should either wait til you can or buy something else.
If you want something that is $10k cheaper, go down the road to buy a Huundee.

Do yourselves a big favour, lower your expectations and you will have a lot better buying experience.

Buying a new car is the second biggest thing most people will purchase in their life, next to a home. So the whole experience should be fun right?
If you like the car, like the dealership, like the consultant and like the couple of grand you have off then buy it then and there. Buying a car is not rocket science people.

And for the record i'm not a consultant, im just a well informed realist!
        Cheers,
        Jamie

I thought it sounded too good to be true. Thanks for clearing that up.

Regarding devaluing the car - it's not worth what they sell it at either, or else there'd be no profit in it for them!

What I'm interested in doing is paying as little as I can whilst still allowing them to make some profit (else they wouldn't sell it to me to start with). If they (VW or the dealership) can take 10% off the base price for no reason other than me being able to prove I work for a company that has 25 cars (none of which may be VWs!), then they can afford to come to the party to some degree for me as a private buyer who may well return later or even buy another VW for my wife/parents/inlaws later (I've had multiple Subarus over eight years, so I'm a return buyer, and I know there are plenty of empty promises made about bring parents/family in for a car too, but I've got two family members right now considering buying cars, and I am recommending they buy a Golf. And the prospect of a sale's gotta be better than no prospect, right? There's two dealers already who I simply would not let a family member/friend buy from due to the way I've been treated there...

In the end, to me, money's better in my pocket than it is in the dealership's pocket, and I'll do everything I reasonably can to ensure as much of it as possible stays in my wallet rather than the dealer's.
          Nothing to see here...

Yes, go for whatever u can get, in the end they will make their money from the after sales stuff like servicing etc.

I have never known a franchised car dealer do it tough.

Id rather buy a $50k VW for $40k than a $40k Hyundai for $40k any day.

I'd rather buy a $50k Golf for $50k than buy a $30k Hyundai for $20k, truth be told! And it's not that Hyundai's are that bad (these days anyway, I shudder when I remember the Lantra I drove as a loaner at one stage), but VWs are just much better.

Of course, I'd also rather buy the $50k golf for $40k!

What an absolute rip off for Dealer Delivery!
$1295 is where it should be at $1695 for higher end vehicles $1995 for top of the range

The way I see a deal when buying a car is they can reduce the DD to $0 as they usually still have a fairly decent margin in the car.

Hear hear! When looking at the spec level, build quality, performance per dollar and how good the resale is compared to most other cars in the market, your actually getting $60k worth of value for the $50k sticker price!

Don't get me wrong, we all like a deal, but its just that some people don't know where to draw the line. And usually it ends up in a bad experience and hating that dealer, when in all honesty its not the dealers fault at all, its the consumer having to higher expectations and not knowing when they have a good deal.

I once made the mistake of showing some interest in a BMW. The price most certainly wasn't the price, with air in the cabin being an optional extra.

They wanted a dealer charge of over $3000 (and this was around 2003). When I asked what I got for my $3000, the response was that he had to send his kids to a private school. At that point I decided that I could live without a BMW.

They are worth whatever you're prepared to pay for it. BUT, as a new car, the value IS NOT generally reflected by the sticker price. If they were worth the sticker price to most people, Volkswagen Australia wouldn't be offering the 10% discount in the first place. The very fact that the discount is there for the taking *so easily* means that the RRP (and, therefore, the resale value) is meaningless.

OK, so now you're talking affordability (as opposed to worth or value).

If you pay sticker price for a non-commercial Volkswagen, you're a sucker. And that has nothing to do with being able to afford it.

                          Well worth it

Whatever anyone thinks of the price for the Golf Gti it is worth the price (as long as it is not well over the top) As I said earlier I was basically blackmailed to pay the dealer deliver of $4000 because they were new in the country and the waiting list back then was 5 months. Basically told if you do not want it someone else will as the waiting list was a long as your arm. We took her and totally love this car there is no Jap car that in my opinion can come close to bulid, features and quality.

Yes I am selling her but for another VW and in saying this the dealer from whom I bought her DID NOT get the next deal. In fact went back there and rubbed there nose in it and told them why, Do not think they like me anymore

                            Hi guys,

Brand new to the forum, was looking at a Passat or Jetta and made the bad mistake of being talked into a test drive of a GTI needless to say i signed on the dotted line today, we have a car buying service at work.

Tornado Red 5 Door DSG, Satnav, Xenons, Leather, Sunroof, Mats, Tints &
Paint Protection. 48k drive away. When i was at the dealership he did me up a quote and it was 52k + dealer delivery etc etc.

I may compromise though as a wait of 4 months will kill me!

                                Stephen,

You've got 4 VW dealers in reasonably close proximity (Sunshine Coast, Austral (Brekky Creek), Highway and Gold Coast). Suggest you phone around to see what is available, compare prices ... maybe play one off against another and see what you can get as a bargain.

                                Welcome to the forum.
