  • Jetta TDI loan car

My R32 is away today, just having a rattle sorted, and some new oil and filter.

The dealer has given me a Jetta TDI DSG for the day. Overall impression is that it's nice car. Engine doesn't have much oomph off the line, but it seems to get into its stride as it hits second gear, and after that it never seems lacking. A bit noisy at idle, but quiet once under way.

Fuel consumption from the dealers to home, in suburban driving, was around 6.5 lt/100 km. R32 going the other way was 10.5 lt/100 km. (And the return journey later in the day...Jetta 6.1 l/100 km, R32 9.6 lt/100 km.)

Obviously it feels nowhere near as sharp as the 32, but nevertheless its handling seems quite competent, and ride is very smooth. Steering wheel is a major letdown, but I guess you could always retrofit the flat bottomed version.

As a practical package, it would have much going for it.

Yeah, I got one as a courtesy car yesterday while my Polo was in getting its A/C done and I was pretty impressed by the torque it had down low. Not as chuckable as the Polo, but fun to drive non the less.
