Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MK5 oil leak

Got an oil leak on my MK5 2.0L FSI.
It appears to be seeping from the engine block just behind the oil filter. I'm guessing from what little I can see, that its leaking from the gasket between the engine block and the component that the oil filter housing screws into.
Anyone "been there, done that" ?

Yes seen it a few times. Not a nice job, sure you need to remove manifold to get access. And sometimes the hosing cracks so best to replace the whole thing.

      As per above.

Also factor in a broken dipstick tube, and PCV pipes.

        Thanks for the replies.
I'm inclined to leave the fix to the experts but I don't have confidence in dealerships so I need an independent mechanic.
Can anyone recommend one in the southern suburbs of Sydney? My search has come up with Bob Mol Motors at Caringbah. Anyone know of them?
