Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • LED headlight globes

So had a headlight globe fail today and am contemplating the H7 led globes. Has anyone tried them? Don't feel like wasting $120 if they don't fit.

You got a link to where you are looking to get them from?

A friend works for Philips and has said there are coming, so they should fit.

Here's the link from the eBay ad. So many different ones these are just one of the ones I was looking at.

        Dude, they look woeful.

The only way that huge heatsink would fit would be not having the rear lamp cover on, which is a bad idea.

Who knows if the bulb base is strong enough to hold that heatsink up as well?

They'd have to be a lot lighter than that — future trouble almost guaranteed.

Yes well aware of that they are just the ones I quickly found to give a link.

The ones I did look at have a separate ballast like HID. I assume these are more for driving/spot lamps where the back of the globe sits out of the housing hence the heat sink attached the the globe itself.
