  • Fuel Economy in TSI

I put my first tank of fuel into the Golf today.

I am staggered at how good the economy is in something that I flogged for the majority of its 620KM's

    Here are 2 photos:

I put 52 Litres in it.

I believe this works out to be 8.07L/100KM. Not bad from the claimed 7.7L/100KM that VW says!

I will see if that 710KM DTE stays true!

If you scroll more through the menu you'd see a reading of average fuel consumption with a no.1 in the corner, press OK on it and it will switch to a no.2.

    1. avg consumption for current trip
    2. cumulative average consumption of vehicle

you can reset no.2 by pressing and holding OK i believe.

My cumulative average is 7.8-7.9 (manual).

I find that the "K's to empty" reading is rather inaccurate at times.

When the tank is about half full, the reading will say 4-500Ks left until empty (this is after doing about 330-350Ks). Then that value will drop very rapidly and in the end it'd work out to be 2-300Ks instead.

Probably due to the odd shape of the tank, bottom part smaller than top.

        125kw @ 6000rpm (D - 125kw @ 4200)
        240Nm @ 1750-4500rpm (D - 350Nm @ 1750-2500)

don't know about redline, I'm still waiting for mine...

Assuming all Golf trip computers are the same, then your average is probably actually closer to 8.3 - 8.4. I reset the trip computer at every fill, and then manually calculate the milage at the refill, and the trip computer is always generous by about 6- 8 %.

I actually do the same thing but I haven't bothered calculating it manually.

And as for redline, it's 7krpm. 8 is the maximum but I'm sure rev limiters will kick in before this.

I don't know that they are all the same. I've manually checked the R32 a number of times, and it's very close to spot on.

I have found the GT TDi to be quite accurate. I have been getting between 850 - 950 km per tank and the average sits any where between 5.4 and 5.8 l/100 km. When I work it out the manual way it is almost exactly the same.

The car only has 5000k on the clock now and I can wait until it is really run in to see what sort of economy Im getting.
