Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Launch Control on MY08 GT TSI ?

Stop the car. Place left foot firmly on brake.
Sport mode or manual
ESP off
Floor throttle - revs will rise to 3000 rpm and then stop.
Sidestep the brake...very slight pause, and then the car launches.
It's in the manual somewhere or other. Temperatures need to be in the normal range, and of course, you need a DSG gearbox.
Anyway, that's how it works in an R32. I'd expect yours to be the same.MY08 R32, DSG, Sunroof, RNS510

Sure does...but....you didn't hear it from me
Actually revs a bit higher than 3000rpm. It has to be the most fun a 1.4 has and possibly ever be....well....unless any of us get the pleasure of driving some F1 18,000rpm version of a similar capacity motorIain Scott

Christ if it doesn't have it i'll be due for a new clutch or two shortly.
You get a satisfying rip of wheelspin too, so you should expect that.
Then it just hooks up and rips.

You're right. The GT-TDI doesn't seem to 'launch' like the petrol variants (GT, GTI, R32) It will still allow you to disengage the ESP, put it in sports mode, hold the revs at around 2750 from memory but when you release the brake it kinda just sits there thinking and then goes 'Oh yeah..we're meant to be going fast in a forward direction" engages a gear and you pull forward in a less than inspiring fashion.Iain Scott

Foot off brake, straight on go pedal is still thinks "Hmmm, ohh, ok, go fast forwards.
Its kind of annoying as the car next to you gets that one car length head start.
