  • HELP PLEASE!!! 2006 Jetta is there a TFSI or TSI

Hi guys today I picked up a '06 Jetta that has done 186,000km and it was TSI However when I was checking another '07 Jetta the car sounded very different there was a nice pop when the gears changed (Now I'm not sure if its a bad thing) is that model the TFSI because the power output is the same on the carsales listing and I have had a look through various online pages.

My question is there such a thing as a 2006 TSI and 2006TFSI?

Also have a question to those who own this car. I found some oil that was in the engine bay on the right side of the engine above the transmission, and directly below that part. Since they use 5-30W Full synthetic on a car that has done 9 years over time the seals and gaskets wear and it leaks slightly. Is the oil normal? bc even after driving it hard it didn't smell oilly.

Thanks guys for the help really appreciate it

TFSI is the same motor as the Golf GTI of the same year model.

Will be a 147kw BWA motor, with DSG transmission.

FSI is the non-turbo motor, with conventional automatic transmission. TSI came later, from around '09.

Oil leak could be anything. Post a pic of the leak, and we'll do our best to diagnose it over the internet.

If they are both the same thing then why did the 07' sound different when changing gears in the dsg? Gonna give the owner a call and ask.

        Hi Remz,

What Umai is saying is that you have an FSI (non DSG) and I assume non-turbo?

The TFSI came out later with a turbo and DSG gearbox.

Forgot to mention that My car has a turbo and DSG.
The reason why I'm get confused is bc on websites that offer mods they have both the TFSI 2.0L and a TSI 2.0L options when selecting the car.

Does the engine cover have anything written on it TSI etc?

ok, here's where I think it is at. I have a 2006 Jetta and it is most definitely the turbo model and it is definitely the dsg transmission. On the boot mine says 2.0FSI. I think there was some mid cycle model update and they then changed the badges on the back to be TSI with the I and sometimes the T and the S being colour coded red. On ours, the I is red and the other letters and numbers are chrome. With the later models with the TSI badges, I think that the turbo model had the I as red only, but don't hold me to that. I don't know that there is any difference between the engines due to the mid cycle upgrade and it probably refers to the size of the engine as well. Whether it is the 2L turbo, 1.8 turbo etc etc. I am happy to be corrected!!

Yeah, for a while there, they kept changing them around.

Now its been simplified. TSI for petrol, TDI for diesel.

I've got a 2008 2.0 non-turbo, 6-speed manual but have no idea what model it is

Can we have a pic of the leak/vague description of where it's coming from/dripping off/colour of the fluid?

Yours will just be a 2L FSI.

FSI, TSI, TFSI, FSI Turbo, etc just refers to the direct fuel injection system. The letters don't really stand for anything, although there were a few contradictory claims early on from VW that FSI stood for Fuel-Stratified Injection. Essentially marketing garb for what was actually just Fuel Straight In. The little 1.6 petrol engine is none of those. It runs a fairly basic EFI setup.

Trim levels are Trendline, Comfortline, Highline, Sportline, GTI, and R Line.

So is an FSI the same as a TSI?

                        And what's different about TFSI?

Here are the models I found when buying a MK5 jetta.

TSI turbo supercharger injection the 1.4litre 118kw with 7 speed dry DSG both engine and gearbox are problematic

FSI normal 2.0 no turbo often with 6speed triptronic auto box

TFSI 2.0 turbo like GTI with 6 speed wet DSG

TDI 2.0 diesel 103kw 6 speed manual or 6 speed wet DSG
                          MK4 GTI - Sold
                          MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold
                          MK5 Jetta 2.Slow - Until it dies.

You have the FSI Turbo, which has the 2.0 FSI badge on the boot...

It was the top of the range Jetta 5,and basically a Golf MK5 sedan,

                            Great cars.

I had the normal FSI non turbo tiptronic, which also came in manual.

2.0 TDI were the diesel versions, which came in manual AND automatic.

Were great sellers for VW locally,i don't think the newer MK6 Jetta has sold as well as the previous model.
