  • A great little VW gadget - cheap too !!

I am not usually one to go on about items that could be classified as gadgets or gizmos however I feel the following item is worthy of mention.

It is VW P/No 7L0012223 Tommy Bar.

This item is used to assist in removing and replacing wheels. It is a standard item in the Touareg tool Kit.

I first saw it on the OEMPlus web site for US$12.50. and after a bit if deliberation thought it may be handy to have one.

I enquired at my local VW spares dept. and picked one up for $15.35. Which more than compares to the US price.

It has lived in the back of the car for a couple of months till last weekend when I decided to rotate the wheels. This meant changing all four wheels.

I could not believe how easy this simple tool made the removal and particularly the replacement of the wheel.

You may not use it often however when you do you will appreciate it, all for 1/2 the cost of a pizza !!!

So... what is it? Got pic's of the part in question? Or the part in action?

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

THAT'S going straight to the Pool Room!

I changed my wheels for the first time the other day and did nothing but curse the inventor of bolts on wheels and yearned for the good'ol' stud!

This doodad looks like A Real Good Thing.

Thanks a heap (2 thumbs up)

Macca and Timbo have a set they had made up, two means you don't even have to line things up. Their have no thread and jut push into two holes, put in the other bolts then pull these out. Looked fantastic in action!

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I just cut the head off a 14mm by 1.5mm threaded bolt, clean the edge up, and use that.
Have done it this way for a long time on studless vehicles to guide wheel on.
                  Cost $2

                      I picked it up today.

It'll be handy when I put the 16" wheels on soon.

Even my 1982 Volvo had this. Best to cut a bolt if you really need one.
Or let the guy at the tyre shop worry about fitting the wheel

ahh yes, but that is pickup... it is also domino's.

How long is the bolt you guys are talking about cutting?
If it is short, wouldn't this just end up wound in a couple of threads (to be an effective guide) then you're rooted with no way of getting it back out - without taking off the wheel again?

Tommy bar sounds a lot easier to me
