Just found this forum after having my comfortline 2.0 TDI DSG for nearly 3 years. Had the usual problems by the threads: speedo error, loose door skin screws and rear wheel bearing failure. Beaut car, my 3rd VW. Upgrading to a Pacific. Question: tradein or sell private, current Golf 75K, reflex silver, DSG, and all records, new michelin's suspect it is worth $24k from carsales.

I try to sell privately, though I have taken the easy way out a few times.

My general rule is to pick a price that is lower than the going rate, and to chase a quick sale, rather than hanging around asking for the last dollar. A cheap private sale is always more money than a trade anyway.

Last car I sold was a RAV4. Most ads were in the $25-26k region. The book trade figure was around $19k. I asked for $22.5 and it sold the first morning, to the first person who rang, for what I asked. Even had two others offer more in a attempt to have me break the deal. It was a good deal for both of us.

No, very few used diesels around anywhere at the mo.

I have never ever traded in a car. I always sell private, its a bit of a hassle sometimes, but take lots of good photos with nice scenery, no weird angles, even move the car around as u take the pics so it is always facing the sun. write a decent description giving as much info as possible (leaving out the bad stuff). I usually set the price around the same as what everyone else has on carsales, or at least know what else is around. When i sold my last car, i knew that there was 1 other car the same for sale in the state, mine was cleaner with less km and was $1000 cheaper. guess which one sold first?

I reckon used Golf's esp with DSG will sell pretty easily privately.

Gday all, i've just discovered this forum, really impressed by the friendly, intelligent exchanges. Says something about the market segment vw has. I'm about to sgn on the dotted line for a new tdi pacific, and was wondering about what sort of difference there is between the comfortline and the pacific specs exactly. trading from a hilux....., cant handle the mental anguish feeding its fuel addiction. is there anything I should be aware of that may be weaknesses with the golf, considering I live/ work remote WA. Any common sense stuff to increase effiecency, go? any feedback would be much appreciated.

If you don't live near a VW dealer or service agent, I'd be weary.

ey there welcome to the forum. you could also consider the GT tdi (not that im biased or anything ). nothing really bad to watch out for; there will 99% sure be a few rattles to get ironed out. apart from that if its serviced regularly you'll get many hundreds of thousands of trouble free kilometers from it.

heres a few threads to get you clued up :
