Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Bulb Out warning light -Brake

Perhaps someone can help? I have an intermittent "bulb out" warning light occasionally displaying. It relates to the near side brake light. I have checked the bulb and it is OK. Even so, I replaced it, and checked it was working fine. The issue is therefore not the bulb, but perhaps a connection somewhere?
When the warning light is displayed, the brake light bulb does not work. However, the light will eventually start working again, and the warning light extinguishes.
    It is an intermittent thing.
The bulb socket is good and tight fitting.
    Any ideas?

Check the terminals for the bulb socket, and ensure you're using the correct wattage bulb.

bulb is probably on the way out.

I had bulb warnings for 3 months before the bulb went west.

Did you replace bulb anyway and leave replacement in?

If the filament on the bulb breaks, it will stop the bulb working and give the warning, but if just broken, then a jiggle can touch the filament back together again and visually looks fine, until it separates again. I just had this issue on an A3 with the reverse light. Swapped out (put LED's in) and issue fixed.

Change the bulb out permanently to a new one.

On my A4, I went through a brake light every 6 months or so. Different sides, and no I was not trailing the brakes. (discs lasted about 180,000km)

It is not the bulb. Have replaced it, and swapped it over to the good side. Still an issue.

Hey love to help. Check if any water has entered the glode holder. It will probly be the holder itself. Give it a go.

I had this same problem for just on 12 months, every second day the warning light comes on and the later it goes of. Checked the globe numerous times, finally it went and I changed bulb all was good till 2 months later the other one went. Then a week later one headlight went, so fixed that and 2 days later the other went. Now all is good again.
