Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Changing Brake Pads, best place to buy?

    Hi there

I just wanted some advice before I start ringing around.
Where is the cheapest place to buy brake pads for my 2005 VW Golf TDI MKV, and how much do they cost on average?

I am planning on changing the pads myself, however just out of curiosity what do Mechanics usually charge for changing Front and Back Pads?

    Thanks

Expect to pay around $120 for a decent set of pads. Also factor in around the same for each brake disc if they're heavily-lipped or worn down.

Hourly rates vary, so expect to be charged around an hour for the work.

Thanks Umai, I've been given some advice to check out brakes direct.
