Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Few questions (Jetta)

    Hey guys,

Im new around here, nice forums you got here!

Looking to buy a Jetta sometime this month, had my first (brief) look today because the dealer was closed. Looking at the TDi model. Was intially looking at an Octavia but resale was a bit of a worry.

Anyhoo, we are looking at a Jetta TDi (+sunroof, + bixenon headlights, + alarm). My first question is, what sort of delivery time would I be looking at for a car with those options?

My next question is something more general, but just wondering is there a MkVI around the corner, will a new one be released later this year or anytime soon?

    Thanks for any help guys!

I heard from my leasing agent that usually they bundle sunroof + leather with most option combos, so trying to find one without the other in country could leave you with a long wait for a factory order.

Don't know if there's any truth to this, or if he was spinning crap to manage my expectations

          Welcome Dilan,

When purchased last August, I want a Spice Red. The only one available in the country had beiger leather & bi-xenons. Otherwise it was a 12 week wait. I'm glad I took it, bu twuld have waited the 12 weeks if no other Spice was available. It' s worth the wait if you have to.

The Jetta was initially built for the US market because they like boots. Currently there is a Jetta BlueMotion close to if not already being released in the USA to meet their strict environmental standards, but I think it would be at least another 12 months before they arrive here. That said, the Jetta BlueMotion achieves 4.6 l / 100 km & 122 g/km CO2, (currently 5.8 & 182- approx) and will have will have about 130kw (103) and about 250nm of torque (235).
          Do a google on BlueMotion

Are factory order Jettas actually being delivered to customers in Australia in only 12 weeks from date of deposit ? I would have thought it might be more like 16 weeks ? I know many salesman like to be optimistic in their estimates for delivery times, but hate to write a hard cancellation clause in the sales contract if they don't meet their own overly-optimistic delivery date.

It depends if you can find exactly what you want available in Australia, or are prepared to compromise; either by going without something you do want, or paying extra for something you don't want in order to avoid waiting for a factory order.

A number of guys I work with bought Jettas and they were all factory order. Some of them had to wait beyond 16 weeks for theirs. They're built in Mexico, aren't they?

When talking to them about delivery dates of the R32 and my concern about missing their ETA and the extended wait among colleagues on mine, I was advised the ETA's from Germany are pretty spot on but the Jettas are commonly late.

Go to a few dealers, see what they've got in stock in their network and you might find the right vehicle sitting in a holding yard, waiting just for you.

If you are buying a VW, and you can afford them, get the bi-xenons.

My R32 was ordered at a time when cars being delivered had taken 8 months...so I did my planning based on that. Delivery actually happened 4.5 months after signing the order.

Just have the dealer look at the holding yards. If you're not fussed, you can get one in a week depending on options available.

If you want one made, i ordered mine in March 07 and got it in August 07.

and trust me, the wait is a REAL bitch. Also weigh up your options considering theyll be new cars arriving by the time your car arrives it will be old.

With the current Jetta launched in America in 2005 March, and Europe late 2005,the mk6 will not be there until 2010 at the earliest.
Australia got it in February 2006,with the rest of the world to follow,so I would not expect it to be here before late 2011.
When I was buying,I wanted the latest model with good resale,so am pleased that I rejected the Mazda 6,as that was due to be replaced,as well as the Honda Accord Euro,as that is going to be replaced in the next few months.VW have produced over 8 million Jettas, and last year sold 630000,making it the 3rd most popular model in the VW group.
It is made in Mexico and China in volume,as well as in South Africa.
Production is also beginning in Russia and India this year.
                    I can highly reccomend it.
Think it is better value than the Octavia, and a far SAFER buy.
Let us know what you deceide, and good luck with it all.
