Pacific is New Sportline and Undermines value of GT TDI
Yes Russ, but not 'alone in the field'... 'in a field of their own'! (one the supercharger, the other the turbo )

Nah, I thought of that but it just didn't sound right. The trend has already started and I quote from the 2009 Summer/Autumn edition of Volkswagen Magazine page 5 bottom right hand corner (for those who received it in the post recently) The fact is that in 2008 every second vehicle sold by Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles was a diesel. We're even now, the petrol over diesel debate has taken a sharp turn
I'm sorry my friend but I see the day fast approaching where Diesel Will Rule The Earth.

They are still my in-laws, so it is not a deal breaker...
I was deluged with opinions about how I should have bought/tried the TDI GT Sport, how the TSI is a tinny little buzz box (from people who had not driven one, just going by the 1.4l, so their opinions were naturally dismissed out-of-hand) and the like (including my boss who said I should have bought the R32, to which I suggested he give me a pay rise and I would...).
That said, I bought the TSI without ever having driven a Golf, on the basis of the reviews and looks. Not very scientific, but I've always been an impulse buyer (research everything and make a snap decision on gut feel).
Happy with the choice (and presumably would have been happy with a MK6 Comfortline TSI as well).
The preference for the TSI over the TDI was conceptual (I hate driving behind cars that have smokey exhaust - I know, they are not THAT smokey - and felt a bit of a hypocrite if I had bought one). Also, I was attracted to the high-tech nature of the TSI. Not much of a reason, I admit, but there it is.
Each to their own, of course, and all power to those happy TDI drivers out there...

So, what was this thread about again?

Any time you'd like to follow behind me in my GT TDI even if I'm giving it stick, I'm sure your vision will be in no way impaired by smoke. Even my sons '07 Comfortline TDI gives out very little smoke when you plant the foot down, so I'm afraid you have the wrong impression of late model diesels. As we are still discussing TDI comparisons I think we are still safely within the bounds of the topic and shouldn't as yet have earned any infractions for ourselves from the Mods (wonderfully understanding people that they are)

No, I mean at the lights (no problem when they are being given 'stick' - I'm no longer behind...)

You obviously haven't had a GT Sport TDI along side you at the lights yet, I still say it could be an interesting comparison, especially once the TDI is in second gear. Then you could race to the nearest service station while you refill with fuel, the TDI driver goes for coffee and doughnuts

Indeed. I must admit, I don't see the point in racing against cars I can beat (why bother ) nor cars I can't (why bother ), and I don't race TSI's because, well, we are on the same team. So I tend not to race (also, when the kids are with me, and I 'hoon' a little, they dob me into the wife).

I don't hoon out either I'm nearly an old fart, and my Missus is with me nearly all the time in the car and doesn't like it when I put the foot down from the lights, not unless it is absolutely necessary. I'm sure the TSI is a beast as well and whatever way you look at it they really are a pleasure to drive and I'm so happy with my TDI decision as I'm sure you are with the TSI
Having driven both as a manual, I'm afraid I'd prefer to have a TSI at the lights. It wouldn't be much, but it'd win. If both were DSG, then it may be more level.
The bottom line is that the MK6 versions, at this stage at least, are all down on power compared to our GT's, and with tougher emissions now, I am not yet convinced the GT, powerwise anyway, will occur again.
THAT'S sad....

I have a DSG... Both great little cars (similar but different).
As you have alluded, there is a GT in the UK, but with the same (less powerful) TSI and TDI motors from the Comfortline.
