Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Ahh I'm wrong - found the ADR.

    ---

Nice one, thanks for taking the time to look it up.

I guess it goes down to lots of things aren't quite legal to have fitted on cars. This one is pretty easy to spot though and IMO serves no benefit to the car or driver to have while in motion or stop traffic.

The RNS510 is a driver's aid. So no laws are being broken.

It is if a DVD is being watched. If navigation is on the screen then it's ok but watch tv or a movie and you're breaking the law.

I'm sure a decent lawyer could get around that.....especially the way the following law reads

How would they get around it. The law allows you to use a navigation device as a drivers aid, a speedo is a drivers aid as well.

What you can't do is watch tv or a movie whilst driving. hence why the screen shuts off for those functions.

I suppose one should say the unit or screen itself is not a problem.

The content whilst driving is and any officer would easily see if a movie or tv is playing. Hence the cancel action if the handbrake is not on (whether you can get around it or not).

The law says nothing about watching the DVD? Just says if the unit isn't a driving aid (and the RNS510 is) it must be installed so the image cannot be seen by the driver(not the case with an RNS510 as it's a drivers aid).

It can't be any clearer than that...
