Gateway module he means most likely. Not common for them to fail, however have seen it a time or two. If you plugged in VCDS you should still be able to communicate with your engine or transmission model via the k-line wire.

Go into either of those and confirm CAN communication to the other modules on the drivetrain(Engine, transmission, brakes, airbags and steering assistance). If the module is reporting CAN communication in ok in the Bus, then problem likely lies in the gateway. But you would still need to check power and earth supplies at the module.

There isn't any internal relays in these cars, relays are just normal relays however a lot of them are switched by modules.

The gateway module doesn't cost $2500, not even with the labor to diagnose and replace.

Onboard power he must have meant? But thats still got no internal relays just plugins.

I looked at the report and they out Access Control Unit... Dunno if this mean anything else

If it's fixed then it's fixed. I just like to know what the result/cause was however it's not really clear in this case. Good result anyhow.
