Just got a copy of my contract to sign (their network was down the other day so they couldn't print me a proper contract). It clearly states delivery date of 01/08/08 and if the delivery date cannot be met within 30 days I am in my rights to cancel the contract.

    Now, question:

    1. A car hasn't been assigned to me yet (ie no details on the contact regarding the VIN, build date, engine no etc) model, make, trip, colour etc are filled in correctly.. is it safe to sign without these details?

Unless you are buying a car off the lot then you probably won't get VIN etc. You are buying a car built to your specifications, as stated in the contract, not a specific car that already exists, so you have to sign with the details available, which is what they've put on your contract.

I bought mine from Barloworld Botany. At the time I was looking around at a range of vehicles - from cheap cars (e.g. Ford Fiesta/Focus), to Peugeots, and from VW, the Polo initially.

At first the saleperson wasn't that warm... probably thought I wasn't actually looking seriously... probably just personality though. I gave her my indicative price range (which was more based on my perceived need, rather than any specific financial constraint) of less than $30,000.

She quite happily arranged for a test drive of the Polo. Then I mentioned I'd like to look at the Golf so test drove the 1.6. Obviously felt it was a bit underpowered.

Went back the next day to test drive the 2.0 petrol (as they didn't have a demo on the first day) and the salersperson was very accommodating in arranging this.

I also mentioned that I'd like to test drive the TDI 2.0 DSG (Comfortline), but she mentioned it was out of my price range and perhaps just wait to get back from the test drive to see if I still wanted to test drive the diesel. Loved the extra power of the 2.0 petrol over the 1.6.

Anyway, when I got back from the test drive, she already had the TDI waiting for me! Jumped in, took it for a drive, and the decision was made!

All in all, and the point I am getting to, is I thought the service was pretty good. I didn't feel pushed, was able to test out a range of cars, and wasn't pushed to spend more than I wanted. (Although I did spend more than what I initially said, it wasn't because I was pushed to spend it, but I realised that I'd be far happier with the diesel, and with the increasing price of petrol, happy I made that decision!)

When I picked up the car, which was a pretty quick delivery (four days, as they had stock), she took her time to explain all the features and introduce to the service manager. While obviously this is standard, again, I didn't feel rushed and felt cared/looked after, which is more than can be said for many of the other dealers (of other vehicle brands) that I visited.

Hopefully the servicing is also good but I'd recommend/buy from Barloworld in Botany again.

I purchased a Kombi Beach from Barloworld Five Dock. They gave me a great trade in on my GTI - over 4K better than the best private offer I reckon they had a buyer lined up as it was off the lot the next day.

I tried Barloworld Botany but was completely insulted by the trade in offered on my one year old GTI. I rang up prior, agreed a price, turned up and got offered 10K less! Thanks for wasting my time.

The funny thing was I was after a demo Beach from Botany, but Five Dock had a brand new one on the lot. I ended up with that one for less than the cost of the demo

There was a bit of fing around but that all ended when the salesman realised I wanted to settle CASH right then and there and drive away.

Service at Five Dock has been 7/10. Very friendly, but time estimates are variable and quality of the warranty work has been mixed. Some of this is due to the quality of the VW parts though...

I have had extremely bad experiences with Chatswood Sales (commercial vans-extremely non competitive & non responsive to quantity orders) and Chatswood Service (a friend's cabrio-incorrectly diagnosed auto trans issue that persisted for over 3 years until we went to M&M for service).

Horrific experience with Denlo Parramatta - destroyed a set of special order VW Motorsport shocks being installed on a Mk3. Car was under warranty so I got a VW dealer to install - MISTAKE! They had to air express a set from Hannover and only did so because I was a VWM client. They tried to fob me off until they got the call...

Girl friend bought her FSI from Wollongong and that was a smooth transaction.

Well, I popped into the VW dealer at Hornsby the other day, and had a *totally* different experience to what I had at Denlo.

Within a few minutes of walking onto the yard, I had a salesman approach me. And I don't mean like a shark approaches a seal floating on the ocean's surface, he was friendly and helpful - he asked if I were just browsing for now, or if he could help with anything. When I mentioned I was considering the purchase of an R32, he offered to run me through the features, and offered comparisons to a GTI (since I mentioned it was an alternative I would consider). Within a few minutes, he was organising (after first offering me a tea/coffee/drink of water) for a back-to-back test drive of a GTI and R32, which we duly took a few minutes later.

Not only that, but after we got back he did up a few comparative quotes, asked me if I had finance sorted or wanted some assistance with that, introduced me to the sales manager, and

Further to that, when I do buy, there's no doubt that I'll be buying through the Hornsby dealership.

                  Oh, and the R32 rocks.
                  Nothing to see here...

I'd have to say Paul Wakeling in Campbelltown has been quite accommodating. We've had the Polo almost two months, and have brought it in with numerous niggling issues. Pioneer sat/nav issues (3), tint bubbling, massive rattle in rear 1/4 interior panel, discolouring black door trim, splitting drivers armrest.

The sales team was great, as was finance. And it seemed service would be too. The service coordinator is great and friendly and always makes sure we have a loaner. And has been thus far, however, yesterday we brought it by so they could check out the tint. And the "customer care" liaison j******, was quite rude and abrupt, acting as if there were no bubbles (very obvious ones) and told us to book it in and they'll look at it. I'm thinking that our luck, with a good dealer and after sales support is just about over. I would recommend them to buy, but it seems the more problems you have they get annoyed and sorta brush you off. Of course just my opinion.
