I realise that car salespeople probably have a reputation for being overly pushy, and maybe some salespeople are doing their best to counter this reputation by being less aggressive, but the guy I spoke to didn't understand my questions (such as "What are the implications of choosing the satnav package - do any other components in the car such as the stereo change?", nor did he seem keen to talk the car up or organise a test drive (odd when I'm considering putting down a deposit for a car worth $70k with onroads and am willing to sit on the end of a 3-4 month wait for it to arrive...). He didn't seem remotely interested either that I'm considering a WRX STi as an alternative (I would have at least expected him to try tell me about where the R32 beats it...).

I was hoping to avoid driving all over Sydney to try find a dealer who actually wanted to sell me a car, but it seems I may have to do so...
Really, I also stopped by Denlo Group in Parramata today in the market for a GT. The sales rep that I was talking to was pretty good organised a test drive for it on the spot and answered a good amount of Questions.

On another note the GT is a great piece of machinery!

Bought the car privately so no experience with the sales side of the business but have used the service department at the Hornsby (or is it Waitara) dealership there and would rate it a "good experience" overall

Interesting - maybe I just got a salesman who was having a bad day.

I will try again another day then!
        Nothing to see here...

I dealt with sales reps at both chatswood and denlo (both owned by the same parent company, inchcape) and the guys I got I quite liked.

Albeit I liked the guy at chatswood a bit better and hence ordered a golf gt tdi today

Im in Lane cove and reckon the guys at Denlo Five Dock are the best in the area.

The guys in parramatta were ok but a bit to busy to be able to really help me.

If they can't meet my delivery date of late july/early aug I'll be cancelling the order. I've already discussed this with the sales rep.

Yes in blood to be sure, I can't see them making the 3 months unless there is a car already in the system about to be built.

I don't think anyone who has a special order for a GT TDi has been it in under 4 months, in my case it was going to be 7 months and another buyer who ordered 2 weeks after me (start of February) had his car arriving end of June (+ 2-3 weeks to get to dealer so July).

The Sale rep I delt with at Chatswood was a great guy and very helpfull(opposite to the dealer). The issue was that every little thing had to go through the manager, who was from what I can tell, in need of a dose of reality. I try not to judge a dealer by the sales staff as they really are the guys in the middle. They can do all they can but if they are not backed by management then they wont be able to do much.

Daft009: I would make sure you have some writing on the ability to cancel your order as the best intensions of your sales rep can be overruled by a controlling management. I believe there is another thread going on here somewhere of someone going through this problem at the moment.

I think maverick has some more info on this.

Exactly the experience I had at CCC. The rep was very helpful but management stuffed around.

Of course the car dealers could have their version of good cop/bad cop going on.

The salesman is the good cop who understands the purchaser and want's to give him the best deal no matter what but the sales manager is the bad cop.

So when you think the the salesman is off doing his best for you and fighting his manager for a few dollars extra, they are actually there working out how best to screw you over.

After all there would be no point in having the salesman appear to the be the badcop as the purchaser would go elsewhere, if they "click" with the purchase half their job is done and if they think the salesman is fighting for the best deal I would say their job is done and the deal will be signed.

Especially with the lines like "My manager will do a good deal if you will sign now" and "Come back when you're ready to deal and we'll get you the best price then" and so on.

Remember they are professionals (loose usage of this word) and do this this every day and know how to act, most people buy a car once every 5-10 years and don't realise what is going on. This is why I believe that the laws protecting consumers need to be tightened up because even the smartest of consumers get screwed over by the immoral and most likely illegal actions of the dealers.
