  • The ongoing Tyre question......

Hey Guys, new owner of a 2nd MkV GTi, Man Blue. Its a great car, but desperately needs to have the original conti's replaced.
Been researching till the cows come home and shortlisted the following

    Toyo T1R's @$340 ea
    Yokie @ Sdrive @ $305
    Falken FK452 @ $311

There is also the option of a Toyo TEO Plus @ $235 ea as well (I have these on my Fozzie and there a great tyre, just not sure if they're suited)

Anybody have experience with the above tyres ?

what about Goodyear Eagle F1 (or F1 assymetric) - theyve won more tyre comparison awards than any other tyre in the world
2007 Audi RS4 with: APR ECU Upgrade; JHM Quick Shifter; Milltek Catback and Downpipes; KW V3 Coilovers; Argon Creative Carbon Fibre Splitters

Everyone will have a difffernet opinion on this one, but the 3 you've mentioned above tend to do poorly in magazine tyre tests.

Have you considered Bridgestone RE001's? They get very good feedback from people who have used them. There's a thread on either golfmkv.com or vwvortex, from memory.

What about the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A that come from the factory? (at least they did on my Jetta TFSI).

In Motor Magazine's last tyre comparo, the Maragonis faired very well, and they were incredibly cheap as well.

Well worth a look if yr not bothered about name-brands

Holy crap, I've done 64,000 on mine and still OK!

I'm on the search too, the Conti's are nice but $500 a corner is insane!

I reckon I drive mine fairly hard but I do maintain high pressures and rotate them fairly aggressively which you need to in a FWD car. But 15k??? You must be lowered or hit a gutter or something?

I've heard good things about the Maragonis too (Italian brand I believe).

Personally, value for money I wouldn't go past Michelin Pilot Precada 2's, good mileage, quite ride and great all round performance.
I used to be indecisive - now I'm just not sure....
