Hi everyone, (I'd like to add that i've been searching for a fix on this issue for a few months, but the story below threw my research out the window)
I bought my MK5 TDI Comfortline golf off a relative around 6 months ago with Climatic(?) controls, the 3 dial & seat warmer setup.
Late last year when I borrowed it the heating got stuck on for a journey, then went back to normal.
After I bought the car this year the heating got stuck on for a period, then the AC got stuck on for a while, around a week, then the heating got stuck on for a while.
So basically the heating unit works, as does the AC unit. there seems to be an issue with the switch.
I removed the footwell trim last week to look for issues with what I was certain was a cable, when my mate was just fiddling with the controls. When he pulled the blower switch towards him slightly, the AC kicked in and stayed on. Some lights that had not been illuminating also light up again and continued working as we drove it around for a while.
Today on my drive the heater started blowing again and I immediately did the same thing, pulling the blower control knob outwards slightly (not enough to displace it) and the AC kicked back in.
1. Has anyone experienced this issue? how did you resolve it?
2. Is this an issue with the control unit itself? or some sort of wiring? Would buying another control unit solve the problem?
3. Can someone like me (relative auto novice but likes some tinkering) fix it.
Any input would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!
