Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

How do I organise a remap and what is the usual cost? I'm in Adelaide.
Anywhere from $700ish for a Bluefin self-loader through to $1700ish for something very well marketed & high in popularity.

You have a TDI. Suggest you have a look here http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/f28/

    and here http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/f20/

Talk to Custom Code or DNA Tuning or in ADL forum admin Transporter is a Viezu rep & can do it all for you.

I knew you did something & that you give the car a once-over. Probably a good thing to have some hand-holding if customer is a bit uncertain.

I'm not sure if I follow, but you can PM me if you want to know more. I don't want to discuss that in the open forum.

          Translation:

I knew you did some type of tune.

I know you give the car a basic check-over before & after the tune to make sure it's running properly.

Jetta 2007 doesn't appear to have any experience in these things so choosing a vendor local to him to hold his hand is a good idea.

I'll look into it a bit more and consider the remap.

Looking at replacement 16 inch rims for the car as the existing ones have quite a bit of previous gutter rash.

Can anyone suggest a decent set of 16 inch rims, preferably VW OEM but don't have to be, that would look good on the car? Refer to pictures on page 3 for the current rim type. I would like a set either new or second hand but with no gutter rash.

In addition, can anyone tell me where I can find the part number on my wheels? I think this is the stock wheel that is fitted to the car:

Which comes up with a couple of part numbers 1k0 601 025 16z (grey)
              1k0 601 025 8z8 (diamond silver),

Just want to confirm somewhere on my rims what mine might be specifically.

Take wheel off & partno is cast on the spoke.

Any VW/Skoda/Audi 16" rim will fit if they are 5x112 PCD (Golf, passat, jetta, superb, octavia, a3/4/5/6). Later Audi are approx 66mm centrebore & need hub rings to bring them back to 57.1mm.

What looks good is entirely up to your own taste.

There are plenty of 16" rims out there. You won't pay more than $300 for a set in immaculate condition - probably with tyres. I have a set of Audi 16" on the forum that are 99% quality (theres a 2mm chip on the face of 1 wheel) and they are <$200.

Ebay, gumtree & forums (vwwc, vwgolf.net & ozaudi) are good sources

Thanks Brad. I quite like the existing wheels on the car, I think they're known as bionline or biolines 16 5x112 wheels. If I could find a new set of those somewhere I would be stoked.

Where should I look? Ebay and gumtree dont seem to have any up, at least not that I've found...

Great looking Jetta, those alloys are the standard ones, and suits it best.

I am sure they are called Atlantas.

                      Thanks Anthony.

Where can I get a brand new set of Atlanta 16 inch wheels from in Adelaide? Don't mind buying from interstate/overseas also.

Try Volks Torque who are a specialist VW wreckers based in Lonsdale.

The other option you have is look at getting your current rims repaired.

Brand new = dealership. Expect to pay about 10% of what you paid for the car for a set.

Had one of the wheels fixed up, negotiated with the seller to have it fixed, and it came up great! Just when I was putting the wheel back on, that annoying wheel brace had a cable with the locking nut attached, and I made sure I gripped it quite tightly, but unfortunately it swung loose once when I was tightening the wheel. The result was a tiny chip on the machined rim. See pic below. The slightly larger looking scratch was there previously, mostly removed by the rim guy but still just noticeable. The chip is minor but just annoying. Is there anything like a touch up pen or similar that could just fill in that chip? It is round and located about an inch from the bottom of the rim...

Anyone know how to fix a 'NO CDC' error with the OEM iPod adapter in the RCD300? There is an existing one in the car, I've tried to use it with my ipod and iphone and both return the same error when I push CD twice. I took out the head unit and all the connections appear to be in place. Seems like this is an ongoing problem for many people with the iPod adapter
