I have standard GT wheel (multifunction with DSG paddles) but round.

I think it would suit YOUR car much better.

I'd be willing to help you out - tell me how much you're willing to pay for the swap

Seriously, if it bugs you, I'd be willing to give you some cash for a swap.

however, even if you take the car as is... i'm sure they would track you down if the wheel is worth that much to them. besides they can always change it with another golf in the showroom and then replace that one when the spare arrives.
They couldn't legally take it unless he signs something to that effect.

Just take the wheel... and I'll swap you for it

Haha, no it's not that at all, I would love to keep it, I posted this topic to see:
            1) Are there any issues with having the "wrong" steering wheel
            2) How I can get away without arguing with the dealer!

              Keep it for sure!

It begs the question - do VW actually have quality control?

                Hi JackieChan,

If you take delivery of the vehicle with the steering wheel then it is yours.

You do not have to take it back unless you want to.

The steering wheel is good for anyone who has a DSG box as they can program it to work like an R32 with manual changes, so it is worth quite a lot.

Only aspect to look at must be if the functions work and airbag which i am sure it should.

By the way VW's are delivered to the dealers with the wrong stuff once in a blue moon. R32 golf's came with the wrong wheels on them for a while.

                Cheers

I find it highly unlikely that the VW factory would make a basic "mistake" like fitting a DSG wheel to a manual car.

This would have a ripple effect on production, that would then make them one DSG wheel short for the next car needing a DSG wheel and so on right down the line.

I feel the swap was probably made here and your vehicle's wheel was found to be damaged pre delivery, the dealer not having the correct wheel for your car most probably slipped on the GTI wheel as that was the only one in stock at the time.

Whatever the reason, the car was delivered to you with that wheel so keep it if you like it.

I say KEEP IT KEEP IT KEEP IT....
Stealers are not going to loose money over one steering wheel...
They can not force you to change it. It came with the car you purchased and that is it.
