  • A bit urgent, what can I do ?

Hey guys, just joined the forum and have a slightly urgent question.

I got a call from the dealer today that my Golf Pacific 2.0 FSI MANUAL was ready for pick up, which I will tomorrow(Saturday). They said everything is fine with the car except for one "problem."

It seems the manufacturer has mixed up the steering wheel. Instead of the standard VW Golf wheel, they have given me the one for the GTI/32, with gear paddles, which of course, for my car, does absolutely nothing but make it look cool.

Now the dealer said I can still pick up the car tomorrow but I will have to come back at a later date to have the steering wheel replaced. I didn't enquire any further except that I'll come by and have a look at it tomorrow.

    Ok, what can/should I do?

Take the car. Don't go back.

Their loss is your gain this time man.

            Keep it!

I also fail to see the problem.
The R32 steeling wheel is fatter and has the bottom squared off and is really nice to drive with.
However I can't understand how VW came to make such a mistake!

Will definitely check the car very closely to see that other manufacturing stuff ups haven't been made. Hopefully if there are any they are just as good for me as this steering wheel issue!

And what if they demand that I get the wheel replaced later, or if I refuse to do it, they can't hand the car over?

It isn't really an issue. People pay lots of $, and go to a lot of trouble, to get hold of one of those wheels.

Someone up there obviously likes you!

Seriously - there are people on the Polo forum looking at paying $500 (believe me thats a good price) to get a steering wheel like the GTI/R32. I am actually surprised the dealer cares about changing it, as this would be fitted from the factory. They may very well be telling you to return it so they can resell it as a spare part. VW would charge about $1300 for the wheel!

So I say take it, change your phone number, move houses, and dont take it back there for warranty or service .

Check carefully when you pick up your car tomorrow, there could be a R32/GTi engine under the bonnet as well.

i would guess that if you tell them you'll keep the wheel before you take the car they will not hand it over till they change out the wheel.
however, even if you take the car as is... i'm sure they would track you down if the wheel is worth that much to them. besides they can always change it with another golf in the showroom and then replace that one when the spare arrives.

if it was a mistake by the factory then it most likely didnt cost the dealer any extra. Why should they profit from your inconvenience. If it come with your car its your wheel. u choose if u want it or not. not them
