Because when I see your pics, my new bulbs won't look so good and I'll have to buy your new ones as well!
    MY08 Mk5 GT Sport - sold
    MY14 Tiguan 118TSI - sold (Mazda3 SP25GT in its place)

No one has toyed with the idea of retrofitting some TRS mini H1 bi-xenon's into their halogen lights?

I have a set laying around that i will be putting into my headlights shortly.

The cut off on these is far superior to stock and the beam pattern is too.

It's not hard to do and all you need is a dremel (and the parts of-course).

I never thought of that, but it looks like too much work for me I'd rather buy new headlights

            H1 mini bi-xenon - 120
            35w or 55w ballast - 110
            bulbs - 60
            total = 280 ...

genuine headlights from ecs, somewhere in the vicinity of 700-950 (not inc. shipping), then you need ballasts and bulbs.

Honestly, i'll be doing a write up very shortly on how to do it.. it's super easy and the outcome is a superior light output (even more so than genuine gti projector headlights).

It would be good to see the write up. I personally probably wouldn't try and do it, everything seems okay until I see the headlight in the oven haha but others might find it easy

oven? no need to oven it!

heat gun does the job. hairdryer even.

I thought thats how people take headlights apart, but I guess heat gun would work

So I've had aftermarket xenons installed in my GTI, one went pop the other day and I'm going through a pain to get both lights running again. Basically they (previous owner) have cut the centre out of the standard globe holder including the contacts and used H7 xenons with the wires coming out the custom hole in the globe holder. seems the ballasts are a cheap ebay knock off and are wired reverse to most available so I'm keen to go back to standard arrangement. But now I need the original globe holders replaced - any idea where to get them?

Have a look on ebay man. Im sure that the previous owner could've bought new globe holder for the xenons of ebay for like $10 and could've given you the original ones. Can't you get new globes for the xenons on ebay? I'm sure you can get some from Sydney or Melbourne and the delivery would be pretty quick I think.

                        Proving difficult!
I have the original globes but the 2x connections just hang out the back

Okay so I found only ONE set of genuine bulb holders and they are for mk6 golf, it says that they fit MK5, even tho they look a bit different.

Genuine Mk6 Golf H7 Headlight Headlamp Bulb Holder / Holders ( PAIR ) HIDs | eBay

Maybe you can message them or one of the other Chinese sellers that sells HID bulb holders and ask if they have MK5 OEM bulb holders.

Or maybe you can just find a HID h7 bulb and replace it.

Bugger, so some idiot has chopped the originals when they could have bought HID adapters for $12. Great....
Those originals you linked to look different in the fittings slightly - I think I'll try and track some down from a wreckers or something.
Why would someone go to all this effort for bugger all change other than the light looks a bit less yellow?
Would prefer the globes discussed last page IMHO.

Yeah thats what they did pretty much. Its pretty stupid.

Got a tripod for my camera and decided to test it out. I took another pic of my LED parkers and standard fogs. Looks pretty good I checked my fog bulbs and they are HB4. Gonna be ordering some Osram Cool Blue Hypers if they make them in HB4.

EDIT: Just checked and they don't come in HB4.
