Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Steering wheel buttons work fine.
You can even play music from your bluetooth capable phone, just like you would for a cordless bluetooth headset. Music quality with with standard kit is not good, but if you somehow get an AD2P? capable kit it plays in high quality sterio.
I have had to force a reset a couple of times but it usually works fine.

      Bluetooth update

      Howdi guys,

Just a follow up/ update on the bluetooth issue I was having.

South Yarra VW replaced the factory bluetooth unit with a parrot unit and now the echo is all gone. Calls are crystal clear and am very happy with the end result.

A few points to consider if you are having the same issue:

My phone is a Nokia and it now works perfectly fine with the Parrot system.

My original factory unit was an EGO Talk bluetooth system - was a heap of sh*t that echoed constantly. Very frustrating.

Dealer installed a Parrot V5.10 and its crystal clear.

      Cheers

My EGO TALK OEM BLUETOOTH UNIT IS CRAP!

I have a MK5 Golf with factory Blurtooth unit (EGO TALK). It is OK when stationary but terrible quality when on the move. OK for me but callers say it is dreadful.

I have had the unit RESET twice now by BURWIN VW and the settings of the unit and my phone tweaked. Still unusable.

I have a NOKIA 6300 with latest firmware but still not working properly.

Very frustrating. Where to from here?

            Control Unit replaced

My car is a 07 Golf. BT unit has NEVER worked properly. Noisy to my callers and has been reset and calibrated a number of times. Eventually Burwin agreed to replace the unit under warrantee. Still no better. Now they have replaced the CONTROL UNIT. This has fixed the problem and the system works well.

I didn't think that any of the VW OEM kits were available in Australia. If it comes from the dealer or from VAG, then it's some sort of NON VW kit.

Not strictly true.... the "cheap" (and I use that term advisedly!) BT option that dealers offer is a Nokia (Parrot chip) solution, but the "Premium" that they sell for about $2000 is a VW kit. Useless though...

See my sticky in the Car Audio section on bluetooth.

I just received my new Jetta last Friday and I had opted for a BT kit from VW ($700). It worked 1st time and everytime since then. Very loud and clear on both sides. I am not sure what brand it is if not VW but the manuals were all VW.

Not sure if this information helps but here it is anyways.

That's the "cheap" option that is a Nokia based unit that I mention above.

I have a 2007 MY 2008 Passat. A great car but I recently bought a Nokia N95 and now am unable to connect to the "parrot" system in the car. I have had the car from new and had many phones - all OK. I can connect my phone to other systems and my old phone still to the parrot. Help - any one got any ideas??
