Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Left parking light on?

My wife came back to the Golf yesterday (MkVm 2.0 TDI DSG) and found the left parking light had been on, seemingly all day. Is this a bug, or have we not read the manual deeply enough to discover a feature?

I'm going to try and reproduce it on the weekend.

This happens when the indicator stalk is left indicating towards the gutter when you get out. If you leave it (indicator stalk) facing the road it leaves the right one on...make sense

Ah, right, rings a bell from other threads here. Does it turn on the parker only after the car is remotely unlocked, or is it just left on?

        Just left on.

Thanks - would've thought it'd be more sensible to only have it occur when the unlock signal hit, wonder if that's VAG tunable.

She should have had a buzzer going off as she opened the door to get out.

Yeah, there was, but the autolights normally take care of this

We'll take more care in future.

My Golf has done this randomly since day 1, even when the indicator stalk is in normal position, turn the engine on, then off again and its fine.....

                  That's a little discouraging!

We'll just have to see how it goes I guess.

This parking globe thingy has been a feature of Golfs since the Mk1.

My MkII does it but more reliably than my MkV

Does anyone know why they have this feature?

Or is that a dum question.

I cant see it being a "warning device"!!

Nah, not a "dumb" question. Probably because Europeans have such narrow roads, and hence their parked cars half out on the road, this is where this feature comes in handy. ANd in turn not suck as much battery juice, because only one side of lamps are lit. Clever German engineering I say...

I was puzzled by this the first time I left the indicators to the left as I turned the car off. I couldnt work out why there was a warning beeoer going off. Then found the indicator switch.

The beeper doesn't go off with the automatic headlights, it only goes off if something is turned on that is out of the ordinary. So if you here a beeper, go looking for the cause.
